Artificial intelligence is not always effective for creating trailers

He is the curator of the "Trailer Editing" course at the Moscow Film School, where he teaches students the basics of trailer creation and develops skills in this field.

Thus, neural networks can significantly simplify some stages, but they cannot replace the necessary human interaction and creativity.

The industry is unlikely to face collapse due to new opportunities, but will instead undergo significant changes. All professions, including designers, will remain in demand. These changes can lead to new forms of collaboration and creative expression, allowing professionals to adapt and thrive in the new environment.

Artificial intelligence is significantly changing the stock image market used by designers. Despite this, humans still play a key role in the creative process. AI technologies can generate images and suggest ideas, but human attention to detail and creativity remain indispensable. It is important to understand that AI serves as a tool that can enhance the efficiency of designers, but it does not replace their unique vision and artistic approach.

Editing with text can significantly simplify the video production process at certain stages. However, the final decision on whether a shot is suitable or not remains with humans. For example, if the text states, "A man with a gun shoots," the actual shooting and execution may differ greatly from this description. A neural network is unable to independently select the necessary frames, which emphasizes the importance of human involvement in the editing process. Human insight and intuition play a key role in creating high-quality video content, where every detail matters.

The essence of neural networks lies in their ability to replicate existing content, including trailers. Currently, artificial intelligence cannot completely replace humans in creative professions, as it lacks the ability to generate new ideas and set trends. This is a fundamental requirement in any creative activity. Neural networks can effectively analyze and reproduce existing samples, but generating original content and innovative solutions requires human creativity.

The quality of artificial intelligence continues to improve. In the future, when we can create videos indistinguishable from modern high-quality filmmaking, humans will strive for more creative and interesting approaches to filming than neural networks. The potential for improving visual content in cinema is limitless. With each new advancement in AI, filmmakers will develop unique ideas that will allow them to stand out from automated solutions. This creates new opportunities for creativity and innovation in an industry where image quality and originality of ideas remain crucial factors for success.

If a neural network can create movie trailers that meet producers' requirements, I will consider this a true technological achievement.

Automatic editing is not possible for cinema

When working with a script, it is necessary to carefully study it and analyze the dramaturgy of each scene to identify key moments. It is important to conduct a process of cutting within each scene to maintain momentum and interest. Often, the editor plays a decisive role in the final result of a film. For example, a director may shoot a lot of footage and assemble it according to the script, but it is the editor who can identify moments that may seem boring. It can also recognize multiple parallel actions that may not be connected in the viewer's perception, and decide how best to present them to maintain visual interest and emotional engagement.

I have never seen a film in my life that adhered exactly to its script.

Editing is a creative process that requires not only technical skill but also artistic flair. Artificial intelligence can effectively process material according to a predetermined script, but its application on the set goes beyond purely mechanical tasks. During the filming process, the editor participates in a collaborative process, taking into account many nuances. Artificial intelligence cannot independently determine the rhythm, choose the most successful shots, or evaluate the quality of acting. The question remains: how will AI cope with these complex tasks in the future?

The director chooses a take he likes, and that is what we use as a basis. Then I can insert a line from another take, and after that, someone else reviews the work, and everything can change again. This process is a constant dialogue between participants. It's unlikely that a neural network will be able to create a montage that satisfies everyone on the first try. The human approach to editing is based on intuition and creative interaction, which makes it unique and difficult to automate.

Electronic editing was a real breakthrough in video production, offering significant time savings. It opened up new possibilities, allowing for the rapid evaluation of various options and changes. At the time, there was no concern that a computer would completely replace humans, since every process always relies on a creative approach and specialist oversight.

A producer and many other specialists involved in the filmmaking process often sit alongside the director. There were opponents of electronic editing, who refused to embrace new technologies due to their reluctance to retrain. However, they eventually had to adapt to modern working methods, as electronic editing became the standard in the industry.

Neural network will take jobs from editors and motion designers

Currently, like many others, we actively use neural networks to generate initial concepts and explore visual ideas. We also apply these models for rotoscoping, rescaling, and denoising. Importantly, these methods have already become industry standard. Neural networks help speed up the development process and improve the quality of visual content, making them an essential tool in modern creative processes.

The future will see the full adoption of content generation technologies, including films, cartoons, and other products. Professions such as illustrators, designers, and digital artists will face a process of "commodification," which is already being observed in the music industry amid the rise of music streaming platforms. This change affects not only creative professions but also the entire entertainment industry, where automation and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly prevalent. As a result, traditional approaches to content creation may change, leading to new challenges and opportunities for professionals in this field.

Commodification is the process by which a unique product becomes a standard commodity, losing its individuality and quality. This phenomenon occurs as a result of increased production volumes, which leads to a decrease in the value of a product's unique characteristics. Under commodification, consumers begin to perceive products as interchangeable, which negatively affects brands seeking to stand out in the market. Understanding commodification is important for companies to adapt their strategies and remain competitive.

Neural networks demonstrate impressive results, sometimes outperforming the work of living people. However, our industry still requires human intervention, since multimedia content has a complex structure that is difficult to fully automate using neural networks. An important aspect is the ability to formulate the right prompts for effective content generation, which can significantly improve the quality of the results.

Neural networks are radically transforming the landscape of creative professions. Every day it becomes clear that millions of "digital artists and musicians" may face the threat of job loss. Automation and artificial intelligence have already begun to influence the content creation process, causing significant changes in the industry. This raises questions about the future of creativity and the role of humans in it. Neural networks can perform tasks that were previously considered exclusively human, which poses new challenges and opportunities for society.

Neural networks will become a kind of "forest cleaner" in modern business, eliminating from the market companies and specialists who are not striving for development and do not show sufficient commitment to their work. As a result, ordinary workers may face the threat of job loss, as automation and artificial intelligence take over their positions.

The question of how artificial intelligence can effectively work in constant interaction with a large number of people and achieve the desired results remains open. Current iterations offered by chatbots and image generators do not always improve the final result and are often unable to accurately interpret the requirements of higher-level specialists. Given these aspects, it is important to understand that creativity and human perception remain key factors in the process of creating high-quality content.

We are on the threshold of a new era of digital art, and our generation of artists with unique names may be the last. Over the next 10-20 years, the number of artists and designers working manually will likely decrease to a few, forming an elite community. Artificial intelligence will likely take over the bulk of content creation. This change opens new horizons, but also raises questions about the role of humans in art and the meaning of individuality in the age of automation.

Content recognition services can act as "experts," which in turn affects the cost of the work of "real" artists, musicians, and other content creators. This may maintain interest in human services in the creative field. Works created by humans will likely be valued higher than those created by neural networks. However, this is unlikely to have a significant impact on the mass market, where automation continues to gain popularity.

It is impossible to compete with machines

Here we face an important question: "What makes humans unique? And what roles will remain for humans if artificial intelligence takes over all jobs?"

However, when a human is involved in the process, using a neural network during the script and concept development stage, the end result becomes significantly better and more appealing to viewers. The synergy between human creativity and artificial intelligence algorithms can lead to interesting and innovative films that can attract audiences.

AI is just a convenient auxiliary tool

The question of whether AI can be taught human feelings remains open. While AI can assist in the editing process by creating preliminary versions, final editing is still required by humans. Thus, interaction between humans and AI will be a collaborative effort, where the human role remains indispensable.

Creating a fully-fledged, emotional film is impossible without human participation. Even the simplest children's cartoon, which can be handled by artificial intelligence, must contain a specific idea or message. Human creativity and emotional depth are key elements that give works uniqueness and meaning. Without these aspects, even well-animated content can lose its appeal and fail to resonate with the viewer.

The Future of Neural Networks in the Video Industry

Creating streaming content, such as recipe reels and TikTok vacation videos, is already possible thanks to the modern capabilities of neural networks, and this functionality will continue to evolve. Simple editing, which any social media user can handle on a smartphone, is best entrusted to artificial intelligence to save time and resources. Many of our experts support this point of view.

Some experts predict adverse changes in the labor market as a result of the introduction of artificial intelligence. AI is expected to lead to job losses, devaluing human labor and making some professions unnecessary. This highlights the need for workers to adapt to new conditions and changes in professional skills to remain competitive in the labor market.

The situation remains tense: in May, a large-scale strike by the Writers Guild in the United States began, joined by various unions. The strikers are demanding regulation of the use of artificial intelligence. They insist on a ban on the use of AI for writing or rewriting literary works and its use as a source material. Issues related to AI are becoming increasingly relevant in the industry, highlighting the importance of protecting copyright and the creative process.

A new sitcom, "The Sidorovs," is preparing for its premiere in Russia; the script was created using neural network technologies. This neural network was trained using popular sitcoms such as "Voronins," "Rodkom," and "The Eighties."
