A graphic designer from Izhevsk decided to diversify his professional practice. Together with his colleagues, he initiated a challenge in which they will create posters dedicated to their hometown over the course of 30 days using only one font. This project not only fosters creativity but also helps to better understand the visual identity of Izhevsk.

The visual environment of Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic, is shaped by a unique combination of historical heritage and modern trends. The city is renowned for its architecture, which harmoniously intertwines elements of classical and modern styles. Izhevsk is known for its industrial monuments, such as factories and plants, which reflect the city's rich history as a center of the arms industry.
Furthermore, Izhevsk's natural landscapes, including numerous parks and green spaces, create a comfortable atmosphere for residents and tourists. Lake Izhevskoye, which surrounds the city, is an important element of the city's identity, offering residents opportunities for active recreation and enjoying nature.
Cultural events and art exhibitions also play a significant role in shaping Izhevsk's identity. Local artists and designers contribute to the development of urban aesthetics by creating unique art objects and installations that adorn public spaces.
Thus, Izhevsk's visual environment is shaped by a combination of historical traditions and contemporary art, emphasizing the individuality of the city and its residents.
I associate the city of Izhevsk with monumental and steel structures, reminiscent of factories and industry. This perception is linked to the city's history and development, which are inextricably linked to the industrial era. Izhevsk has become a symbol of industrial might, and its appearance has been shaped by its factories and plants, defining the region's unique character. The city boasts a unique font, IZH-260 A/T, distinguished by its laconic and austere design. This font is used in wayfinding systems, license plates, address signs, and information boards, making it an important part of the city's identity. We are currently working on a merch collection that will use this font, emphasizing the style and individuality of our city.

Comparing old photographs of Izhevsk with modern images of the city is of great interest to me. This allows me to see how the city's appearance has changed, what new buildings and infrastructure have appeared, and how familiar places have been transformed. Historical photographs of Izhevsk serve as a valuable source of information about its development and cultural changes.
The "30 Posters" project arose as a response to the need for visual art that can draw attention to important social and cultural issues. The idea was to create a series of posters, each reflecting a unique theme or problem requiring public attention. The project team brought together talented artists and designers who contributed their creative ideas to create vibrant and memorable visual images. Thus, "30 Posters" became not only an art project but also a platform for discussing current issues, facilitating the exchange of opinions and ideas among a wide audience.
A designer's work is often accompanied by routine tasks. So, my colleagues and I decided to challenge ourselves and create a poster daily using only one font—Izhevsk's signature IZH-260. This will not only help us develop our creativity but also deepen our skills in working with limited resources, which is an important aspect of design.
We organized this challenge to take a break from our current projects and do something bright and unusual. We wanted to find out how each of us perceives and interprets the features of our hometowns. This project provides an opportunity to reveal the individuality and creativity of the participants, as well as see familiar places in a new light.
The series has become my graphic diary, in which I reflect my experiences and worries. It is a real challenge, as creating a poster requires inspiration and creativity. Each drawing is the result of deep reflection and emotional state, which makes the process even more exciting and meaningful.
The series of posters has caused a wide resonance in the city. Local residents are actively discussing them, sharing opinions and impressions. Many note the originality of the design and the relevance of the theme. The posters became not only a visual decoration for the streets but also an important element of the city's cultural life, provoking interesting conversations and drawing attention to social issues. As a result, they not only beautified the urban landscape but also became a catalyst for public debate.
The project was not widely advertised, but thanks to social media groups and pages, it became known in Izhevsk and beyond. The works were included in the Dprofile graphics collection, and thanks to the "Unedzhit dusha" (Pamper the Soul) public page, the series was seen by a significant audience. This confirms the importance of social media in promoting creative projects and their ability to attract attention to quality content.
It was unexpected that the works "Bike Stall" and "Faces in Navigation" received the most public acclaim. Some friends even asked me to send them the source files so they could print them out and display them at home. This demonstrates the high interest in these works and their artistic value.
Design Factory
I chose design as a profession because I have always been passionate about aesthetics and functionality. Design is an opportunity to combine creativity with practical tasks, to create visually attractive and convenient solutions. I am inspired by working with color, form, and composition, as well as the opportunity to influence people's perceptions and emotions through visual elements. Design allows me to express my ideas and help others find effective solutions for their projects. It's a dynamic and constantly evolving field, which makes it even more appealing to me.
Drawing has always been my passion. I completed my studies at art school and was actively involved in street art and graffiti. After ninth grade, I had to think about my future and decided that I wanted to pursue a career in visual language. I was inspired by the desire to change the environment through art.
In college, I began learning Photoshop and acquired a graphics tablet, which allowed me to transition to digital drawing. I gradually experimented with various design areas, but I became particularly interested in web design, which became the foundation of my first professional career.
At the Center for Territorial Development of Udmurtia, we develop designs for various facilities in Izhevsk and other regions. Our team specializes in branding and wayfinding systems, creating unique solutions that can be seen throughout Udmurtia. We strive to improve the urban environment, providing aesthetic appeal and convenience for residents and visitors of the region.
Design is more than just aesthetics; it is a powerful tool that can influence people's perceptions and behavior. Good design helps create convenient and functional solutions that make life easier and better. It shapes brand identity, improves user experience, and facilitates effective communication. Everything we see and experience—architecture, signage, color schemes—contributes to our subconscious, even if we are not aware of it. It's important to recognize that every design element matters and can influence our mood and perception.

We recently developed a navigation system for Tishino Park. This project presented a real challenge, as the park itself had not yet been built at the concept stage. We explored the future territory, visualizing what it would look like, where visitors would go, and what routes they would take. We aimed to create convenient and intuitive navigation to ensure comfortable movement of people around the new space.
At first, it seemed that we were performing only an auxiliary function. However, after the park opened, I noticed that visitors were actively using our navigation and discussing the information boards, studying the map and choosing their first destination. Children were enthusiastically playing with busy boards, exploring the local flora and fauna, learning about animals, birds, and insects. This demonstrated that our project was not only useful but also contributed to the educational process, engaging people in the study of nature.
We created more than just signage. Our solution incorporates innovative approaches and technologies that significantly improve navigation and information comprehension. We strive to make your experience more convenient and intuitive by providing not only signs but also comprehensive tools for effective orientation.
Free-form drawing and designing based on technical specifications (TS) each have their own characteristics and advantages. Free-form drawing allows the artist to express creativity and explore new ideas without restrictions. However, creating a design based on TS requires a clear understanding of the project's objectives, target audience, and functionality. In this case, the designer works within a defined framework, which can facilitate a more structured approach and efficiency. It's important to keep in mind that the choice between these approaches depends on the project's goals and the designer's preferences. Working within a framework implies following a specific trajectory that can be modified and adapted. This approach allows for effective process management and achieving set goals, adjusting course as needed. This ensures flexibility and the ability to optimize work based on changing conditions and requirements. This is precisely why the idea of using only one font on posters emerged. Typography is an integral part of poster design, and it can be used to creatively decorate even the simplest white sheet. Using a single font helps create harmony and focus on the content, giving the work uniqueness and expressiveness.
Inspiration comes with ideas. Initially, I created three posters effortlessly, but then I needed to walk around the city to capture the atmosphere and details of the surrounding world. Every interesting moment I noticed became the basis for a new poster.
I spent the longest time working on the poster dedicated to Kirov Park. That day, my head was blank, so I had to rely on my associations. For me, this park is a nearby place where I often spent weekends, enjoying reading, coffee, and peace. While creating the poster, I thought about how to describe the differences between the two paths leading to the unique atmospheres of this park.
Evaluating the effect of work is an important stage in any activity. Success can be defined as the achievement of goals and objectives, which leads to positive results. Failure, in turn, is characterized by the inability to achieve these goals, which can cause negative consequences. To more accurately evaluate results, it's important to establish specific evaluation criteria, such as plan fulfillment, quality of work performed, and customer satisfaction. Analyzing these factors will help draw conclusions about what was done correctly and what needs improvement. Thus, properly evaluating work results helps improve efficiency and minimize future risks. The main criteria for me are creating aesthetically pleasing content and completing the project despite a lack of inspiration or ideas. It's important that the result brings real benefit and satisfaction. A poor design is one that doesn't fit the context and evokes negative associations. It looks disharmonious and doesn't create the desired impression. Such a design can be distracting and fail to fulfill its primary function, which negatively impacts the user experience. Quality design should be relevant, aesthetically pleasing, and meet audience expectations.
You shouldn't judge the quality of a design solely by the number of likes. For example, I developed a website that received few responses, but for me this project is one of the most significant and aesthetically pleasing. It was implemented exactly as I envisioned. It's important to remember that the true value of design lies in its functionality and problem-solving power, not in popularity metrics.
In public design, it's especially challenging to consider the diversity of audiences and their needs. Designers are faced with the challenge of creating solutions that are understandable and accessible to people with varying levels of information perception. This requires in-depth analysis of the target audience and ongoing testing.
Furthermore, it is important to consider the context in which the design will be used. Public spaces such as parks, plazas, and exhibition halls have their own unique requirements and constraints. Functionality must be integrated with aesthetics to create a harmonious and comfortable space.
Another challenge is the need to comply with modern standards and safety requirements. Designers must be aware of current regulations and codes to ensure user safety.
It is also worth noting that public design often requires collaboration with various professionals, including architects, engineers, and local government representatives. This can complicate the decision-making process and increases the time it takes to implement projects.
Thus, public design is a complex and multifaceted process that requires an attentive approach to detail and consideration of the interests of a wide audience.
Testing and implementing ideas in a real context are key stages in the development process. Creating a concept or visualizing an idea is just the beginning. When you begin to test navigation or other elements in practice, you can gain new insights and see the project from a different perspective. This allows you not only to identify shortcomings but also to improve functionality and user experience. It is important to keep in mind that real-world testing helps adapt ideas to user needs and improves the overall effectiveness of the project.
There is a stage that can be called "fitting." At this stage, you present the finished part, and it is crucial that the team and manager correctly assess the specifics of the project and the environment, and also monitor the contractors' compliance with the technical specifications. This is a teamwork process in which it is necessary to listen and understand each other. This is where "truth is born": decisions are tested for appropriateness and logic. This approach contributes to the improved quality of work and the successful completion of the project.
Process and Progress
Design is sometimes criticized by the audience for which it was created. This suggests that users cannot always interpret the idea correctly. How do you feel about such criticism?
The topic is truly relevant and arouses keen interest. Discussion of this issue is important for society and requires serious attention. In today's environment, it is necessary to consider various aspects and opinions in order to develop effective solutions. Understanding the essence of the problem will help all stakeholders more deeply comprehend the situation and find optimal solutions.
Our team does not begin implementing a project until it has collected all the necessary information. Sociologists and local residents participate in this process; we research the historical context and generate various ideas. Testing is an important part of our approach. While negative comments can be frustrating, especially after investing significant time in preparation, we take comfort in knowing we are offering innovative solutions.

I'm inspired by my colleagues. For example, Anna Merkusheva has a warm style, and her work fills me with joy. I was also impressed by the resourcefulness and diversity of graphic solutions of Valery Shi, with whom we collaborated. These professionals inspire me to create high-quality content and develop my creative skills.
