Chocolate Packaging Design Trends
In recent years, there has been a clear trend among designers to focus on packaging materials. Eco-friendly and recyclable materials are becoming the industry standard. Unique packaging design not only attracts consumer attention but also creates an interactive experience, telling stories about the brand and its products. This contributes to a positive company image and increased customer loyalty, which in turn leads to increased sales. The use of sustainable materials also meets growing consumer interest in ecology and sustainability, making such solutions not only relevant but also essential for successful market positioning.
Nibbo (2020): The Art of Chocolate
The Nibbo brand presents its chocolate lines as museum exhibits, in line with the design concept of Low Key Design. The packaging is designed in the style of an archival folder, lending it sophistication and uniqueness. Each package includes a flavor description card, reminiscent of museum plaques. This creates a special atmosphere and emphasizes the value of the product, allowing customers not only to enjoy the taste but also to learn more about each chocolate. The brand strives to make chocolate not just a delicacy, but a true work of art that can be studied and appreciated.

High-quality environmentally friendly paper from the Italian brand Fedrigoni was used for the outer packaging. This underlines Nibbo's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Using environmentally friendly materials not only reduces the negative impact on nature but also reflects modern trends towards eco-conscious production. By choosing packaging made of Fedrigoni paper, Nibbo demonstrates its concern for the future of the planet and its desire to create a more sustainable world.
Upon opening the package, the buyer is greeted with an inspiring message: "You deserve the best chocolate." Inside the packaging, details of the production process are presented, making the purchase not only pleasant but also educational. Customers can learn about the high-quality ingredients and unique methods that make this chocolate special. This is not just a sweet, but a whole story that begins with care at every stage of production.
A variety of flavors: basic and limited lines
The brand offers two key chocolate series: basic and limited. The basic line is presented in a simple, single-color packaging design that emphasizes the quality of the product. The limited edition features unique formulations with rare and seasonal ingredients, decorated with patterns inspired by foods such as strawberries and artichokes. Geometric prints also found their place in the design, especially in the New Year's collection, adding originality and appeal to the packaging.

Cadesio (2020): Associations in Chocolate Design

Italian studio Ester Bianchi created a unique identity for the Swiss brand Cadesio. As part of the project, a logo and nine original illustrations were developed that highlight the variety of chocolate flavors. These visual elements help differentiate the brand in the marketplace and attract the attention of potential customers, creating a vibrant and memorable image of Cadesio products.
The illustrations were created by hand using a variety of artistic techniques, including acrylic, watercolor, and pencil. Once completed, they were digitized for use in the packaging. This process preserves the uniqueness and artistic expression, making the packaging more appealing and personalized.
Each illustration not only symbolizes a flavor but also conveys it through associations, creating vibrant and memorable images against a minimalist white background. For example, the packaging for white chocolate with peanuts and wasabi is designed in colors that reflect the main ingredients: green for wasabi and beige and brown for peanuts. The shape of the scattering drops is inspired by the contours of nuts, adding dynamism and originality to the design. This approach not only conveys the uniqueness of the product, but also attracts the consumer's attention, making the packaging visually attractive and memorable.

Environmental responsibility plays an important role in the production of Cadesio products. The packaging is made of recyclable paper and contains no adhesives. The inner tile wrapper is made of plant fibers, free of plastic and aluminum, meeting modern sustainability standards. This approach confirms the company's commitment to environmentally friendly technologies and reducing the negative impact on the environment.
AndSons Chocolatiers: Exceptional Chocolate Packaging Design

Founded in 2019 by brothers Mark and Phil Kovitz, AndSons Chocolatiers offers a unique blend of American creativity and European chocolate traditions. The brothers followed in the footsteps of their mother, who opened a Swiss chocolate shop, and now produce high-quality chocolates in Los Angeles. Their products reflect a passion for chocolate and attention to detail, making AndSons Chocolatiers the ideal choice for sweet lovers. Each product is crafted using the finest ingredients and traditional recipes, ensuring unparalleled taste and quality.
The packaging design was created by the renowned American studio Base Design. Each box opens in the center, and its two halves are decorated with a variety of geometric shapes, symbolizing the brand's duality. This makes each package unique, and the number of possible patterns and combinations is virtually limitless. This approach not only attracts attention but also emphasizes the product's individuality, significantly enhancing its appeal to consumers. Packaging becomes more than just a wrapper, but an important branding element that reflects the company's philosophy and its commitment to innovation.

Ming Liu, creative director of Base Design, emphasizes: “We have abandoned traditional methods of packaging premium chocolate, such as like brown boxes with gold lettering. Our goal was to create packaging that would evoke the holidays, bring joy, and reflect the sunny atmosphere of Los Angeles. The result is playful and casual packaging that instantly grabs customers' attention. We wanted the packaging to not only protect the product, but also become an extension of it, emphasizing the uniqueness and high quality of the chocolate.
Ritual Chocolate (2020): Packaging inspired by the beauty of nature

Ritual Chocolate, located in picturesque Park City, Utah, is renowned for its handcrafted chocolate. Each product is crafted with attention to detail and high-quality ingredients. The unique packaging, designed by the talented designers at Modern8, reflects the spirit of the area and the brand's philosophy, emphasizing its commitment to the art of chocolate craftsmanship. Ritual Chocolate offers its customers not only exquisite taste but also aesthetic pleasure, making their products attractive to chocolate connoisseurs.
Mike Harris, a designer at Modern8, emphasizes the importance of the chocolate’s origins to the client: “We understood how this impacts the perception of the product and sought to reflect this in every aspect of the design. The packaging not only protects the chocolate, but also conveys the brand’s story and values.” Packaging design plays a key role in creating an emotional connection with the consumer and building trust in the product.
The front of the package features images of the Utah mountains, along with local flora and fauna, snow-capped clouds, sunlight, and wind. Color-coding, based on the natural hues of Utah, is used to distinguish the different chocolate flavors. This approach emphasizes the uniqueness of the product and its connection to the surrounding world, and also allows consumers to easily navigate the flavor selection.
The innovative outer cardboard packaging, which opens like an envelope, offers a unique customer experience. Inside the packaging is information about the brand’s sustainable production principles and responsibility. This makes the purchasing process not only enjoyable but also conscious, highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability and social responsibility. This approach promotes conscious consumption and increases the value of the product in the eyes of the buyer.

Saari Chocolate: Tropical inspiration and Scandinavian style

Saari is a Finnish chocolate brand whose products are produced in a modern factory in the picturesque Dominican Republic. The packaging was designed by Italian designer Renan Vizzotto, who set himself the task of reflecting the region's tropical heritage while preserving elegant Scandinavian minimalism. The Saari brand combines high-quality chocolate with unique design, making it appealing to sweet connoisseurs around the world.
Stylized palm branches, transformed into triangles, play a key role in the packaging design. The number of these triangles is directly related to the percentage of cocoa in the chocolate, emphasizing the high quality of the product. This approach not only creates an aesthetically pleasing appearance but also informs consumers about the chocolate's content and characteristics, emphasizing its naturalness and taste characteristics.
The packaging uses the Halyard font, a grotesque that combines organic and strict geometric forms. The harmony of this font with the logo is expressed in the unique percentage symbol and rounded shapes of the numbers, which creates a cohesive and memorable visual style. This approach to design not only attracts attention, but also promotes better perception of information, which is important for the successful positioning of the brand in the market.
Innovative packaging CF-18 (2019): Creativity and craftsmanship

The owner of the CF-18 brand is an engineer who became a chocolatier, which emphasizes the unique philosophy of the company. Designers at OlssønBarbieri masterfully reflected this concept in the packaging, harmoniously combining innovative technologies with a craft approach. This approach not only maintains the high quality of the product but also differentiates the brand from competitors, attracting the attention of chocolate connoisseurs. CF-18 packaging not only protects the product but also becomes part of its identity, emphasizing attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
The box is made of high-quality white FibreForm food-grade paper, renowned for its ability to take shape without the use of glue. This method gives the packaging the appearance of wrapping paper, significantly enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Using FibreForm not only ensures visual appeal but also product safety, making the packaging ideal for storage and presentation.
FibreForm paper offers properties comparable to plastic, making it an excellent choice for companies focused on reducing their environmental impact. Investing in these materials promotes sustainable packaging solutions. FibreForm not only meets modern requirements for strength and flexibility, but also supports environmental responsibility. Choosing this paper allows brands to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and appeal to planet-conscious consumers.
Henrik Olssøn, Managing Director of OlssønBarbieri, emphasizes the importance of packaging, stating: "Every detail of our packaging reflects our approach to quality and responsibility." This philosophy is the foundation of our work and helps us create products that meet high standards and are environmentally responsible. We believe that packaging should not only protect the product, but also convey the company's values, such as careful attention to quality and environmental awareness.

Inside the box there is a tray with compartments for sweets, made from recycled Eska cardboard. To optimize production costs, the paper insert is a standard module capable of holding 12 chocolate pieces. This module is easily separated by perforations, allowing for convenient removal of the chocolates and maintaining their presentable appearance. Using recycled cardboard not only reduces costs but also makes the packaging more environmentally friendly, which is important for modern consumers who value sustainability and care for the environment.
The surface of the chocolate is covered with translucent glossy Seveso paper, decorated with periodic table symbols in holographic foil. This original design solution emphasizes the engineering heritage of the brand's founder and adds uniqueness to the product. This approach not only attracts attention but also reflects the company's high quality standards and innovative spirit.
Modern sans-serif fonts Adieu and Laica B were chosen for the packaging, which perfectly match the overall style and concept. These fonts not only ensure good readability but also emphasize a modern approach to design, creating a harmonious visual perception of the product.
Covet Chocolate (2020): The Art of Creating Chocolate

The Covet Chocolate brand stands out for its emphasis on natural ingredients and handcrafted production, which makes its products unique and appealing to consumers. The natural ingredients used in production ensure the high quality of chocolate and give it an inimitable taste. The handcrafted nature of each product guarantees attention to detail and care for the final product, which confirms the brand's high status in the chocolate market. Covet Chocolate is more than just chocolate; it is true art, created with love and respect for tradition.
Chinese designer Meng Zhat created the main packaging illustration using colored pencils. He asks customers intriguing questions about the character in the picture: "Who is he - a traveler, a chocolatier, or simply a connoisseur?" This understatement, together with the poetic text in the background, creates an atmosphere of metaphor, where the chocolate production process is perceived as an art form. This approach not only attracts attention but also highlights the creative aspect of chocolate making, making the packaging not just a container, but part of a unique artistic statement.

Customers are invited to participate in the creative process of decorating the chair on the packaging. Each chocolate bar comes with 18 unique stickers, allowing you to personalize the design. You can also create your own unique design, giving you the chance to express your creativity.

This part of the packaging is designed to tear along the perforations and can be used, for example, as a bookmark. This approach emphasizes the brand's eco-friendliness, turning the packaging into a multifunctional element. Instead of becoming a disposable item, the packaging forms an emotional connection with customers, staying with them even after the purchase is completed. This strengthens brand loyalty and supports sustainable consumption.
