The concept or requirements in the technical specifications often pose a difficult task for the designer - to find the right font or select a similar one. The reasons for such precision can be varied: it's necessary to preserve the style of the Russian avant-garde, choose a typeface similar to another brand's font, or use an unfamiliar font depicted in a specific image. In such cases, it's important to consider not only the visual aspects but also the functional characteristics of the font to ensure harmonious integration with the overall design of the project.

Modern font recognition services can effectively solve a variety of typography-related problems. In this article, we'll review seven popular tools and test them on several websites to demonstrate their functionality. As an example, we will search for the Latin font used in Tokyo subway navigation.

WhatTheFont

A popular service for searching fonts by image based on an extensive database MyFonts is an ideal tool for those looking for well-known and widely used fonts. However, it's worth keeping in mind that finding rarer and more niche typefaces can be challenging. The service is great for quickly and efficiently finding popular fonts, making it indispensable for designers and typographers.

There is another drawback: unstable and inefficient work with Cyrillic.

Access to the site for users in Russia is temporarily limited.

The service, with more advanced technical capabilities, offers users improved functions and performance. Thanks to modern technologies, it ensures more stable operation and high data processing speed. Users can count on a wide range of additional features that make interacting with the platform more convenient and efficient. Improved architecture and process optimization enable us to achieve high results and satisfy the needs of even the most demanding clients.

  • Allows image editing (adjusting contrast, brightness, and noise reduction);
  • You can request a search only for free fonts;
  • There is a larger typeface database than WhatTheFont.

One drawback is the lack of Cyrillic support. This limits the system's use for users who speak Russian and other Slavic languages. Expanding the functionality for working with Cyrillic fonts could significantly improve the accessibility and usability of this tool.
