Geometric Christmas Tree: Made from Shapes

This creation by British designer Olayinka "Yinka" Ilori, presented at the Sanderson Hotel in London, was installed in 2019.

This "tree" is 2.5 meters high and is made of wood and plywood. The designer installed several lamps inside the structure to provide illumination. In 2019, Olayinka won the British Design Awards for this creation.

The Sanderson Hotel is famous for its eclectic interiors designed by the famous French architect Philippe Starck.

Square Christmas Tree

In 2016, a sculpture called the Alternative Christmas Tree was installed in a square located next to the Utzon Cultural Center in Denmark. This unusual tree was in place from December 1st to January 31st.

This design was developed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill on the occasion of the opening of the "Sky's the Limit" exhibition in Denmark. The exhibition focused on the construction of high-rise buildings.

Experts from the engineering company Steensen Varming were brought in to implement the project's lighting. The sculpture, consisting of a thousand square elements, reaches a height of seven meters. In the center of the "Christmas tree" structure there is an arch through which you can walk.

Christmas tree made of flamingos

Every year, the Philadelphia Zoo installs a tree made of 500 plastic flamingos.

Every year, the zoo hosts the Luminature festival, during which the zoo grounds are filled with bright lights and art installations. In recent years, an unusual Christmas tree made of glowing plastic birds has gained particular popularity among visitors. These decorative figures, which are usually seen on private property, form a composition almost 8 meters high.

New Year's tree made of leaning poles

The installation was created by American artist Lillian Lane. She began working on the first sketches in 1992, but she was able to realize her ideas only in 2022. The installation was located in the UK, in the King's Cross area on Granary Square.

In 2023, this installation was installed in Lewis Cubitt Square, and it can be seen until February 25, 2024.

The artist named her work Temenos, which in Greek means "sacred space dedicated to a deity." When evening comes, the tree begins to glow, and in the darkness, the viewer can enter, finding themselves among bright neon beams.

Glass Christmas Tree in the Shape of Cubes

In 2012, a unique 25-meter-tall "tree" was installed in the main square of Brussels. This project was an experiment: instead of a traditional Christmas tree, we used a stylized tree made of glass.

The "Yelka" was a metal structure with glass cube walls attached. At night, lighting effects and music were turned on under the glass, and during the day, anyone could climb to the top of the structure, where an observation deck was located.

Sand Christmas Tree

In West Palm Beach, Florida, they create a 10-meter sand sculpture in the shape of a Christmas tree every year, named Sandi.

Sandi requires approximately 700 tons of sand to create. Each year, its design undergoes slight changes - the organizers invite artists to create different textures and miniature sculptures. At night, Sandi is illuminated, and during the holidays, entertainment events are held around the sand tree.

A Christmas tree made from recycled electrical and electronic waste

In 2019, Turner Contemporary, a British museum of modern art, presented an art installation created by artist Zo Defferary, who is a graduate of the University for the Creative Arts. This work is a Christmas tree formed from parts of electrical devices.

The sculpture, created for the recycling company Sweeep Kuusakoski, was made using waste. This artwork aims to raise awareness of recycling issues – the museum's website points out that only 39% of e-waste in the UK is currently reused.

Christmas Forest

In 2009, an installation by Japanese artist Masaru Ozaki was unveiled at Tokyo's Shibuya Parko shopping mall. This work featured a series of Christmas "trees" designed in an original style – each one was created from cubes positioned at different angles.

Various colored textures were applied to the edges of the cubes, including both classic Christmas ones and completely abstract ones. The animation was controlled by the shopping center guests themselves, using their mobile devices.
