Trying to change or rework such a composition using its elements separately will most likely lead to failure, since each letter in the lettering has its own unique place and meaning in the overall design. Using a ready-made font is always easier, however:

  • As a rule, designers do not have fonts for absolutely all occasions and tasks.

Sometimes clients request lettering, but a more cost-effective and convenient solution can be to develop a font that resembles lettering. A prime example of this is a project for Yandex Lavka, where I was tasked with creating letters for packaging. It was also important to consider the possibility of changes and the addition of new names. After the sketch was approved, I developed a decorative yet highly legible font consisting exclusively of lowercase Cyrillic letters. This approach ensures the font's versatility and ease of use, making it ideal for dynamic branding.

Fonts, Lettering-like

Technology continues to advance, leading to an increase in the popularity of fonts based on lettering or featuring decorative elements reminiscent of lettering. Previously, type design tools did not allow for the creation of such complex outlines as today. Modern designers have the opportunity to realize their creative ideas without significant limitations, which opens up new horizons in typography and graphic design.

Here are some examples of experimental fonts that can add uniqueness and originality to your design. Experimental fonts are often used to create a memorable visual style, drawing attention to the text and increasing interest in the content. These fonts can be both modern and retro, and are great for promotional materials, logos, and web design. Using experimental fonts allows you to distinguish your project from the competition and create a unique image.

Focus on fonts that reflect your brand style, choose a color palette that matches its philosophy, and consider composition so that the text looks harmonious. Remember that simplicity and clarity are often more effective than complex solutions. Make sure your design is easy to read and memorable; this will help differentiate your brand from the competition.

  • Analyze the task.

How can letters convey the mood and feel of the product? What tone should be instilled in the text? You need to decide whether the letters should create an atmosphere of austerity and calm, or convey a fast-paced and vibrant mood. Perhaps you should emphasize the taste, creating a soft and appetizing impression, or choose sharp and sharp shapes to emphasize dynamism and energy. It is important that the typography and writing style match the character of the product and evoke the desired emotions in the consumer. The right choice of fonts and their design can significantly enhance perception, making it more memorable and appealing.

  • Try to compose a composition within the given framework.

A clearly defined task significantly simplifies the process of work.

You clearly understand where to place the letters, what size of the canvas to choose, what arrangement of elements to use, and what resolution the image should be prepared for. Based on this data and taking into account the first point, create sketches.

If the product or If the text to be illustrated is related to a specific historical or geographical theme, it's important to study the fonts typical of that time and region.
