Do you participate in competitions? Competitions provide a great opportunity to showcase your talents and skills. Participating in such events can not only increase your visibility but also help in professional development. Competitions can range from creative and artistic to scientific and technical. Every competition is a chance to showcase your abilities, make new connections, and gain valuable experience. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in competitions to improve your skills and broaden your horizons.

Participating in challenges brings many benefits. It's an opportunity for personal growth and skill development. However, when your work is evaluated by a professional jury, it becomes a much more meaningful experience. You receive feedback from experts, which allows you not only to improve the quality of your work but also to understand how your work is perceived in the professional community. This experience can open new horizons and help in future career advancement. It's important not only to participate but also to accept criticism to grow as a professional.

Today, I want to discuss festivals and competitions and share my observations on the applications for the Sreda-2023 New Design Festival. These events play an important role in supporting the creative community and stimulating innovation. At festivals and competitions, designers have the opportunity to showcase their work, exchange ideas, and establish connections with like-minded individuals. This year at Sreda-2023, I was struck by the diversity of approaches and concepts presented by the participants. Each application reflects a unique perspective on contemporary trends in design and creativity. Events like these not only inspire but also shape the future of the industry. It's fascinating to observe how participants interpret current topics and incorporate new technologies into their projects.

Should you enter design competitions?

I believe it's important to participate in all events that you find relevant and useful. These could be challenges like Inktober, various festivals, and competitions. Participation in such activities helps develop skills, expand your audience, and share experiences with other creative people. Don't miss the opportunity to express yourself and gain new experiences in the art world.

There are many events covering various fields and specializations. They vary in level and cost, which can significantly influence your choice. Participation in some of them can require significant financial outlay, so it is important to evaluate in advance where to apply, taking into account your capabilities and goals.

  • The main value is that you will be able to present yourself and realistically assess your level in relation to your colleagues in the industry. And also simply stay current and understand what other designers are doing and why.
  • When you participate in competitions, in addition to once again reminding others of your presence (which is never a bad thing), you are included in the rankings of design communities and studios.

Recently, my colleagues from the advertising department informed me that I was ranked among large and well-known companies. This achievement confirms the attention paid to my business and its success in the market. Being included in such a list is an important indicator that underscores our reputation and the level of trust we have with our clients. We continue to work to improve the quality of services and expand our influence in the industry.

Fonts at "Sreda"

This year, at the "Sreda" competition, I, as a letterer, am especially interested in Two font categories. The theme and pricing of this event attract attention and create opportunities for creative expression. Participation in such categories allows you not only to demonstrate your skills but also to gain recognition in the professional community.

  • A custom font is one made specifically for a client.
  • A production font is a font available for purchase by everyone.

This year, the festival received support from TypeType, which allowed authors of high-quality works to submit applications for participation free of charge. This decision significantly increased the number of applications compared to previous years, indicating growing interest in the event and an improved standard of submitted works.

Forty-four applications were submitted in the production font category. Considering that until recently there were constant complaints about a shortage of fonts, especially those supporting Cyrillic, 44 new fonts in one year is a significant achievement. This probably isn't a complete list of all the new features, but it certainly represents the bulk of the new content.

The Bolditalic course is the leading platform for learning type design in our market. Students here create impressive work that demonstrates the high level of knowledge and skills they acquire. I've already shared my impressions of the school and its advantages, and you can judge the quality of education for yourself by reviewing the projects of course participants.

There is a lot of experimentation in custom projects, which is a positive aspect. This demonstrates that clients are looking not only for standard neutral fonts, but also for vibrant, expressive display fonts to create a unique visual style. Using such fonts allows you to highlight the brand and attract the attention of the target audience.

Trends in Font Design

An analysis of the works presented at "Sreda" reveals current trends in font design. This year, there has been a growing interest in minimalist and geometric fonts, which give designs a modern and clean look. There is also a trend toward handwritten and calligraphic fonts, which add uniqueness and individuality to projects. Importantly, many designers are turning to highly legible fonts, which is especially relevant for web design. Furthermore, an emphasis on ecology and sustainability is also reflected in font selection, highlighting the importance of responsible design. These trends are shaping modern visual perception and creating new opportunities for creative typographic solutions.

  • Clean, verified forms with circular turns in the details.

I think it would be more appropriate to highlight three separate nominations. This year, many interesting and original works were presented, among which there are both display fonts and entire families. I believe that it will be difficult to evaluate font families with many styles on a par with display fonts.
