Find out moreAt the conference "More than Learning: New Priorities in a Changing World," organized in October by SberUniversity, participants in the session dedicated to EdTech products were invited to discuss outdated elements in the educational process. Participants expressed their opinions on which practices, in their opinion, will disappear from education, especially in the context of adult education. This discussion highlights the need to adapt educational methods to modern requirements and technologies, which is an important step in increasing the effectiveness of learning.
We present you with a carefully selected collection.
45-minute lessons
Nina Yanikina, managing partner of the Business Alliance group of companies, argues that adults are not able to perceive information over long periods of time. Therefore, the 45-minute lesson format will likely become outdated. She notes that even with high levels of interest, people's attention begins to wane after just 20 minutes, and they may become distracted by their phones. This highlights the need to adapt educational formats to modern realities to maintain concentration and learning effectiveness.
Chronology
Natalia Tsarevskaya-Dyakina, CEO of the Ed2 EdTech accelerator and head of the EdTech department at the Skolkovo Foundation, is confident that the traditional chronology of the academic year, starting on September 1 and ending on May 31, is becoming a thing of the past. This is due to the changing expectations of students, who want to receive immediate results from their studies. Modern students and professionals are not prepared to wait long to start a program or receive final grades, so educational formats must adapt to the new demands of the time and provide immediate benefits from training.
Linearity
Natalia Tsarevskaya-Dyakina suggests that the linear approach to learning will gradually become a thing of the past, giving way to modular and integrated forms of education. She notes that modern demand for educational services has changed: people want to choose what and where to learn. For example, programming skills are available at many educational institutions, but leadership training requires a more specialized approach. This leads students to begin to independently develop their own unique educational path, combining various content modules offered by different institutions. This approach allows for tailoring education to personal interests and professional goals, making the educational process more flexible and relevant.

Group Learning
Daria Ryzhkova, founder of the research agency Smart Ranking, believes that group learning is outdated. In the modern educational process, the emphasis should be on an individual approach that allows each student to develop at their own pace, without having to adapt to the group. In her opinion, chats for like-minded people can be maintained, where participants can exchange opinions and collaborate on projects that interest them. However, this should not occur as part of the main learning process. Individualization of education promotes deeper learning and increases student motivation. Sergey Ershov, CPO and Chief Product Owner at Edutoria, predicted a trend toward personalized education, noting a shift away from the traditional format of one teacher speaking and a group of students passively listening. In the context of modern educational technologies, more and more educational institutions and platforms are striving to adapt the learning process to the individual needs of each student. This improves the effectiveness of learning and makes it more engaging. Personalized education opens up new opportunities for developing skills and competencies that meet labor market demands. Passive Learning Sergey Ershov believes that the "Sit down and we'll teach you now" paradigm will become a thing of the past. In the future, everyone will be an active and full participant in their own learning process. This change will significantly transform the approach to learning, making it more individualized and interactive. The student's participation in his or her own educational process will increase their motivation and the effectiveness of their learning.
What won't disappear?
Offline education, previously predicted to decline due to the rapid development of digital technologies, will continue to exist. This opinion was voiced by Natalia Zhuravleva, Senior Managing Director of Sber's Education Industry Center, during a discussion on this topic. After the abrupt shift to online formats during the pandemic, offline education has regained popularity and demand, acquiring new advantages and unique experiences. Today, a combination of online and offline formats provides students with flexibility and variety, making learning more effective and adaptive to the needs of each student.
