Course with employment: "The profession of a methodologist from scratch to PRO"
Learn moreNatalia Maloshonok, PhD in Sociology and Senior Researcher at the Center for Sociology of Higher Education at the Higher School of Economics, compiled a list of undergraduate program areas, indicating the proportion of women admitted to these programs in 2021. She based her work on data from Form No. VPO-1, which contains information on organizations that provide educational activities in higher education programs, including undergraduate, specialist, and master's programs. This data was published on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The list is divided into three categories: "male" programs, in which the proportion of young men upon admission is 67% or more, "female" programs with a proportion of young women of 67% or more, and "neutral" programs. This approach has already been used in research on this topic.
In an interview with Natalia Maloshonok, we discussed the causes of gender inequality in education, particularly in engineering programs, and its potential consequences. Gender inequality in education leads to a lack of women in technical professions, limiting the diversity of opinions and ideas in this field. It also negatively impacts technological development and reduces innovation. Understanding the factors that contribute to this inequality is a key step toward creating a more inclusive educational environment that fosters equal opportunities for all.
