The Higher School of Economics has published the results of a study titled "Quality of Admission to Russian Universities." An analysis of score distribution revealed a high and growing interest among talented applicants in fee-paying educational programs offered by leading universities. At the same time, there is a shortage of state-funded places in many popular programs, especially in the humanities. As part of its monitoring of the economics of education, the National Research University Higher School of Economics conducted a study of the salaries of faculty members at Russian universities and effective contracts. The study analyzed the components that make up faculty salaries, as well as their activities, based on data from a survey of faculty at higher education institutions for the 2020/2021 academic year. The main conclusion of the study is that the classroom workload of 23 hours per week takes up 4-5 hours of the workday, which is excessive. According to the authors of the study, this situation can negatively impact the quality of the educational process. Faculty members have virtually no time to update their knowledge and conduct high-quality research. The need to review the workload and working conditions of faculty members is becoming an urgent task for improving the quality of higher education in Russia.
