In this article, we will consider the following aspects in detail:

  • The most popular subjects in which tutoring is most often required include mathematics, Russian, and English. The services of specialists in these fields are in demand among students and schoolchildren of all ages. Prices for lessons vary depending on the region and the teacher's qualifications. On average, lessons in the most popular subjects range from 1,000 to 3,000 rubles per academic hour.
  • In Russia, tutoring costs vary significantly by region. The highest tutoring rates are typically found in large cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. Here, prices are typically significantly higher, driven by a high standard of living and demand for quality education.

    At the same time, tutoring costs are much more affordable in less populated and remote regions, such as parts of Siberia or the Far East. In such areas, competition among teachers is lower, allowing for lower prices.

    Thus, the cost of tutoring in Russia varies from high prices in large cities to more modest rates in less densely populated regions.

  • The cost of a lesson can be influenced by various factors. Firstly, the level of qualifications and experience of the teacher, as more experienced specialists often charge higher prices. Secondly, the duration of the lesson plays an important role: longer lessons tend to cost more.

    Furthermore, the location of the lesson can also significantly affect the price. Lessons held in the teacher's home or at specialized institutions may have different rates. It's also worth remembering the format of the lesson: individual lessons are generally more expensive than group lessons.

    It's also worth considering the demand for certain subjects or skills. If a subject is of high interest, the price may also be higher. Additional services, such as the provision of educational materials or online resources, can also affect the overall cost.

    Finally, the geographic location and standard of living in the region where classes are held can become determining factors in forming the pricing policy.

Price categories for training in various disciplines

According to the study conducted in September 2025 by Avito Services together with the ProgressMe platform for online learning, this year Russians most actively searched for tutors in the following subjects:

  • foreign languages (31%);
  • mathematics (23%);
  • programming (16%);
  • Russian language (15%).

According to the results of the study, on average, almost 50% of respondents among tutors set the fee for a lesson more than 1,000 rubles per hour. At the same time, only 1.5% of specialists offer their services at prices below 500 rubles per hour.

It's worth noting that on platforms designed for student search, tutors have the option to set their per-lesson rates differently. For example, they can set a price for 45 minutes (academic hour), 60 minutes (astronomical hour), or 90 minutes.

The Profi.ru service, which offers specialist search services, distinguishes between preparation for the Unified State Exam (USE) and Basic State Exam (BSE) in various subjects and regular school education not related to exams, as well as the development of various skills, such as programming or music lessons. The platform presents the most popular areas for lessons with tutors, where average prices for a 45-minute lesson are indicated in Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

  • Mathematics services start at 1,000 rubles.
  • The cost of preparation for the Unified State Exam and the Basic State Exam is from 1,000 rubles in Moscow and the Moscow region, and in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region it starts from 800 rubles.
  • Learning English - from 1,000 rubles;
  • Learning Russian - from 1,000 rubles;
  • The cost of music services starts at 1,400 rubles in Moscow and the Moscow region, and in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region prices start at 1,000 rubles.

The list above indicates the minimum price ranges, not the maximum or average values. However, it's worth noting that in Moscow and the Moscow region, you can also find tutors with rates below 1,000 rubles. As an example, here is an offer from a student tutor on the Avito platform, who has received positive reviews from his students' parents.

The YouDo platform, designed to find professionals, has published a list of the most popular subjects and areas, and also presented the average prices for one lesson of any duration, at which they work Tutors registered in the system:

  • The cost of studying English in Moscow is 1949 rubles, while the average price in the country, excluding the capital, is 1555 rubles.
  • The cost of studying mathematics and physics is 1591 rubles in Moscow, while the average price in the country, excluding the capital, is 1360 rubles.
  • The cost of music, dance and fine art classes is 2307 rubles in Moscow, while in other regions of Russia the average price is 2013 rubles, excluding the capital.
  • The cost of sports services is 2634 rubles in Moscow, while throughout Russia, excluding the capital, the average price is 2345 rubles.
  • The cost of studying Russian language and literature is 1769 rubles in Moscow, while in other regions of Russia the average price is 1476 rubles, excluding capital.

Analyzing information from various platforms, it can be noted that mathematics, English and Russian languages are in greatest demand. It is important to note that the values give average prices, while the actual price range varies significantly and is determined by many other factors, which we will discuss later.

Prices for tutoring services in different regions

According to a study conducted by Avito Services together with ProgressMe, 97% of tutoring teachers conduct classes online - fully or partially. The online format gives tutors the opportunity to find students throughout Russia, regardless of their location. Additionally, virtual classes tend to be less expensive than traditional lessons.

Anatoly Zhislin, CEO of Repetitor.ru, reported that the transition to an online format has significantly transformed the pricing strategy of tutors using this platform.

"Previously, a tutor who taught in Moscow typically charged significantly higher prices for their services than a colleague from the region. However, the situation has now changed: both teachers, those in Moscow and those living outside the capital, now work through distance learning." "Prices have become dependent not on geographic location, but on other factors," asserts Anatoly Zhislin.

In the next section of the article, we will analyze the factors that influence the cost of lessons.

Nevertheless, despite the prevalence of distance learning, which blurs the boundaries between the capital and other regions, a study conducted by Avito Services and ProgressMe shows that the difference in lesson prices still exists.

  • The highest prices for tutoring services are observed in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In these two capitals, almost a third of teachers set rates above 2,000 rubles per hour of lessons and, as a result, receive an income exceeding 100,000 rubles per month.
  • Tutors from the Far East also have high rates, reaching 20%, but their monthly income is lower than that of specialists from Moscow and St. Petersburg. This is due to the lower demand for lessons in this region, as well as lower employment in this sector.
  • In the North Caucasus Federal District, tutoring is most accessible, as, according to analysts, the tutoring market there is only just beginning to develop. As a result, local teachers have low rates and incomes, and also face a smaller number of students compared to the national average.

Factors Determining the Price of a Tutor

So, what factors, besides the subject and the teacher's residence, can influence the price of a lesson? Let's consider the following aspects:

  • A tutor's education plays a significant role in determining the price of their services. Anatoly Zhislin emphasizes that a diploma from a reputable university provides more grounds for setting a high price for lessons. In his observations, although some clients prefer to turn to school teachers with a pedagogical education, such cases are rare. "Usually, a successful mathematics tutor is not a graduate of a pedagogical university, but, for example, of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, or the Moscow State Technical University," he adds.
  • Having documented qualifications will be a significant advantage for the teacher, allowing them to set a higher price for their lessons. This may concern not only qualification categories, but also achievements in various competitions, status as an expert on the Unified State Exam or Basic State Exam, the presence of an academic degree, as well as the authorship of educational materials and the development of new teaching methods.
  • The more experience a tutor has, the higher their prices will usually be. Maria Safonova, Head of Search Marketing at Profi.ru, provided data on Russian language lesson prices: "For senior students at specialized universities, the average lesson price reaches 900 rubles per hour. Tutors with 1-3 years of experience charge between 900 and 1,500 rubles per hour. For teachers with 3-7 years of experience, the price ranges from 1,500 to 2,700 rubles per hour. Meanwhile, tutors with over 7 years of experience and developed methods charge from 2,700 rubles per hour." However, experience is not the only factor influencing lesson prices. A study by ProgressMe analysts showed that "while the cost does increase with experience, it is not determined solely by it." As experience increases, so does the number of tutors charging high rates, but within each experience category, there is a significant range of prices."
  • Student achievements and client reviews often help tutors increase their rates. However, this does not always guarantee a high lesson price. According to Daria Ponomareva, who heads special projects on the YouDo platform, the average profile of a successful tutor is as follows: 11 years of teaching experience, a rating of 4.98, and 13 student reviews. However, as Daria noted, there is no clear correlation between experience, rating, and prices among tutors on YouDo. This means that teachers with similar experience and ratings can have significantly different lesson rates.
  • An attractive profile on the online platform plays an important role. Anatoly Zhislin asserts that an informative description and a high-quality video presentation of a tutor can attract potential clients. This, in turn, can allow you to set a higher price for your lessons compared to the average rates.

The CEO of the platform "Repetitor.ru" also announced the cost of hourly (60-minute) lessons with the most popular tutors, who occupy the top positions in the rating of this service.

  • The cost of tuition in mathematics is 3,500 rubles;
  • An English course costs 3,000 rubles.
  • Learning Russian will cost 3,000 rubles.
  • Physics costs 3,000 rubles.
  • Chemistry - 2,800 rubles;
  • Learning biology will cost 2,000 rubles.
  • Social studies costs 2,000 rubles.
  • The cost of lessons according to the primary school program is 2,000 rubles.
  • The costs of preparation for the school year are 1,800 rubles.

Costs Please note that the prices listed are not final. The Tutor.ru platform, like other similar resources, features teacher profiles where the cost of lessons can reach 4,000–5,000 rubles per hour. Naturally, such prices are set by those teachers who can boast significant success in their professional activities. Even higher prices are found on such platforms.
