One day I had a dream that turned out to be not just a dream, but a real sleep paralysis. I lay with my eyes open, unable to move, and watched as the Black Man silently entered my apartment through the front door. The stranger disappeared into the kitchen, leaving me in a state of anxiety and fear. Sleep paralysis, when the conscious mind is awake but the body remains motionless, is often accompanied by intense hallucinations. This experience made me reflect on the nature of fear and how our subconscious can create terrifying images. In my next dream, I wake up in my bed, preparing for the familiar flight I usually take in lucid dreams. In such dreams, I possess my body and can control it at will. However, the Black Man is waiting for me in the kitchen, preventing this. I wake up again, finding myself in a state of sleep paralysis, unable to move. I fall asleep again, and again he appears. I am trapped between sleep and reality, unable to escape. Perhaps this is not just a loop, but a spiral in which I am stuck.

In the viscous atmosphere of a nightmare, the influence of reality is felt. Alan Wake fights to escape the Dark Abode, a place permeated by his creativity and which has created a unique world. At the same time, detective Saga Anderson encounters paranormal phenomena in the real world. The question of what reality is becomes central. Two storylines in Alan Wake 2 develop in parallel and intertwine, creating an increasingly tense interplay as the plot progresses.

The dark abode penetrates the real world through wormholes in space, absorbing everything in its path. Reality, in turn, doesn't stand aside and throws up unexpected surprises, like the janitor Ahti from Remedy's game, Control, who sings a song in Finnish in a bar. All of the studio's games are now interconnected, creating a unique universe. Although Remedy doesn't own Max Payne or Quantum Break, they still find ways to integrate these elements into the overall concept, using allusions and connections between characters and events. This enhances the atmosphere and immerses players in a deeper, more layered narrative.

Alan Wake 2 isn't a perfect game, as it has many flaws. For example, the character Saga has a special mechanic reminiscent of Sherlock's "mind palace," where she uses sticky notes and photographs on a board to build a chain of investigations. However, her conclusions are often too obvious, and the player is forced to use the board or risk getting stuck. The character Wake also has a similar board that allows him to modify the Dark Abode. However, in essence, this mechanic boils down to a simple enumeration of options for how the surrounding space will look, while only one of them is needed for further progress.

The problems don't end there. While the action has improved compared to the first game, it still feels awkward and frustrating. This is especially noticeable during the first boss fight, where the player has to scramble to find ammo. While the gameplay becomes more hardcore, it also comes at the expense of comfort. Furthermore, the map, inherited from Control, doesn't facilitate navigation—the player constantly gets lost and doesn't know which direction to go.

Alan Wake 2 operates on the principle of dreams, which not only explains the problems that arise but also makes them a key element of the game world. Have you ever encountered convenient fights in your nightmares? Or have you repeatedly found yourself lost in obscure locations trying to find the exit? These aspects make the experience deeper and more engaging, immersing the player in an atmosphere of uncertainty and exploration. Dreams in Alan Wake 2 become an integral part of the narrative, creating a unique connection between story and gameplay.

Alan Wake 2 immerses players in a dream world that can become so real you might even dream of it. This dream will be filled with discomfort and tension. You'll find yourself in familiar yet distorted locations, where you'll use the power of your imagination to alter your surroundings and find a way out. Vague silhouettes will appear along your path, resembling people who will haunt you, whispering your name. Each battle will be grueling, forcing you to continue moving toward the light, as it's the only path to salvation. You will become a champion of light in this dark world. Alan Wake 2 is not just a game, but an experience that will stay with you long after it’s finished.

Remedy has a unique approach to game development. Each of their works, despite its flaws, possesses a special charm and is capable of deeply touching players' emotions. Few studios can create a game that combines a high technical level with an outstanding artistic style. In Alan Wake 2, the art direction is truly impressive, making the game not only engaging but also visually appealing.

Who else could assemble a multitude of talented musicians to create unique tracks that would serve as breaks between "episodes"? Who would film a full-length short film, available for viewing in the in-game theater after an intense battle? Who would finally present an entire episode in the format of a musical, with live actors and impressive installations in the background?

How often do you see naked elderly characters in video games? While this topic may seem inconsequential, it is worth discussing. It is important to pay attention to how video games represent different age groups and bodies, as this affects the perception of characters and their realism. It's interesting how game developers use age and physical characteristics to create depth and variety in their stories.
