About choosing a country

I am a graphic and web designer, as well as a creative director of a digital agency in New York, specializing in creating visually attractive and functional solutions for online platforms. My experience in design allows me to develop unique projects that meet modern trends and client needs. I strive for a harmonious combination of aesthetics and practicality, ensuring a high level of user interaction with digital products.

LinkedIn and YouTube are two important platforms for professionals and businesses. LinkedIn, as a social network for professionals, allows you to establish business contacts, share experiences, and find new career opportunities. LinkedIn can be used to effectively promote your personal brand and connect with like-minded people.

YouTube, in turn, is a powerful tool for distributing video content. On this platform, companies and individual entrepreneurs can share training videos, webinars, and presentations, attracting attention to their products and services. YouTube also helps improve SEO, as video content often ranks highly in search engines.

Both platforms play an important role in digital marketing strategies, allowing companies to reach their target audience and strengthen their market position. Proper use of LinkedIn and YouTube can significantly increase brand visibility and recognition.

I chose the United States as my place to emigrate. I dreamed of living in New York since childhood. I always felt that this was my country, and I never considered other options. New York has become a symbol of freedom and opportunities for me, which I strive to realize.

An art director, visual artist, and entrepreneur are key figures in the world of creative industries. An art director is responsible for the visual concept and overall aesthetic direction of projects, which requires a deep understanding of design, color palette, and composition. Visual artists create unique images and graphics that attract attention and convey ideas. Entrepreneurs in this field launch and develop their projects, implementing innovations and new technologies. These three roles are interconnected and play a vital role in the successful implementation of creative ideas. Experience and skills in each of these areas become the foundation for creating unique and memorable visual solutions.

A website and Telegram are important tools for engaging with audiences and promoting a business. Creating a high-quality website allows you to present your company, products, or services online, providing users with information and opportunities for interaction. Telegram, in turn, serves as an effective platform for direct communication with customers, distributing news and promotions, and building a community around your brand.

Website optimization for search engines (SEO) helps improve visibility in search results, which increases the number of visitors and potential customers. Using Telegram channels and groups allows you to maintain contact with your audience, promptly inform them about new products, and receive feedback.

These two tools combined create powerful marketing potential, allowing your business to grow and develop in the digital space.

My husband and I travel a lot, but we only began discussing serious steps to move after a trip to Vienna. This city inspired us with its rich culture, magnificent architecture, and milder climate compared to Moscow. We realized that Hungary could become our new home, and this desire only strengthens with each visit.

We prepared for our move to Austria for six months. We studied forums, watched YouTube videos, and mastered German. However, we found that financial and visa issues in Austria turned out to be more complicated compared to other countries. Moreover, learning German from scratch was a significant challenge for us.

When it became clear that interacting with Austria was difficult, we decided to turn our attention to America. To get a full picture of the situation, we canceled our planned European tour and traveled to the United States.

In the United States, I met with some friends from Russia who suggested I consider a talent visa. They noted my experience in design and emphasized that it was truly impressive. I, for my part, was hesitant, believing that I didn't deserve such a visa and didn't have the significant achievements to warrant it. However, they insisted that I at least consult with a lawyer who could help me assess my chances and explain the visa process.

California is a hub of creative activity, offering numerous opportunities in the creative field. Numerous projects are concentrated here, creating excellent opportunities for self-realization. California also boasts a stable economy, making it an attractive location for professionals looking to develop their skills and bring their ideas to life.

Working with a Lawyer

Before moving, I scheduled a consultation with a US lawyer who specializes in talent visas. At the meeting, we discussed the necessary documents and criteria to consider. I tried to objectively assess my chances of obtaining this visa in order to prepare for the emigration process.

I haven't met anyone who applied for a visa on their own. In any case, you will need the assistance of a lawyer who handles the paperwork and understands the specifics of such cases. Consulting a specialist will help avoid mistakes and expedite the visa process.

When dealing with the bureaucracy of other countries, especially when you lack an understanding of local laws and procedures, working with a lawyer becomes essential. Many of my friends who are applying for talent visas cannot do so without legal support. In the United States, the system is such that it is virtually impossible to resolve immigration issues without a lawyer. There is no need to even raise the question of whether to work with a lawyer or not - this is a mandatory step for successfully resolving any legal issues.

Upon returning from our trip, we contacted lawyer Anna Aronova. She noted: "You have a chance of success. It's important to start working on your case and prepare it so that it looks convincing to the immigration officer."

I held a management position in a company that successfully developed franchises in the CIS countries and was widely covered in the media. This experience was a strong confirmation of my professional skills and unique approach to business.

If you're a Nobel or Pulitzer Prize winner, or an Olympic champion, you can probably get by without a lawyer—your recognition will be sufficient for approval. However, if you don't have such high-profile awards in art, design, business, or sports, it's recommended to seek professional assistance. Lawyers have the experience and knowledge necessary to build a strong case that will convince the immigration officer of your eligibility for a visa. Proper preparation of documents and an emphasis on your achievements significantly increase your chances of success.

About collecting documents

To obtain a visa, you must have publications about you in the press. Many people think: “Who am I? Who would want to write about me? Surely this requires a lot of PR costs.” However, if you're a compelling specialist, your experience and knowledge can attract the attention of journalists and bloggers. The market is always hungry for expert opinions and unique stories, which opens up opportunities for media coverage. Therefore, it's important not only to develop your professional skills but also to actively share your experience to increase your chances of being published and, ultimately, obtaining a visa.

I compiled a list of my strengths and interesting experiences and then began submitting my proposals to various publications. I emphasized my competencies and materials that could be useful to their audience. The results were immediate: some publications ignored my requests, but others showed interest and offered to write articles about me. In response, they sent me interview questions, or I wrote the article myself and added photos.

There are two main ways to get mentioned in the media. The first is to invest a significant amount in a PR agency, which will handle all negotiations, which may result in articles about you being published. The second approach is to focus on developing your own projects. By creating interesting and relevant initiatives, you can attract the attention of media outlets that will want to cover your achievements. This approach is not only cost-effective but also allows you to establish stronger connections with your audience through high-quality content.

I didn't invest in PR services, but chose to invest in photographing my projects. For example, when we released a kimono collection, I hired a model, makeup artist, and photographer myself, without going through a company. We conducted a professional photo shoot and then used the resulting materials in an RBC article dedicated to kimonos. This approach allows you not only to create high-quality content but also to effectively promote your products through reputable media.

I developed the case over the course of a year. For the first six months, I worked at a leisurely pace, gathering thoughts and ideas. Every evening after work, I devoted time to creating my portfolio: searching for information online, translating texts, and writing accompanying materials. The lawyer assisted by providing structure and rephrasing the text into a more legal format. This process was a valuable experience for me, allowing me to deepen my legal knowledge and develop my skills in drafting legal documents.

The most difficult stage for me was receiving three letters from American companies confirming their interest in collaborating. At that moment, I felt like I was on the verge of despair and wouldn't be able to move forward—how would I ever find companies outside the country?

It's important to choose a sole proprietorship in your field, not just contact a friend in the US who transports refrigerators. It's important that the company confirm their willingness to collaborate by writing, "If you manage to obtain a visa, we will be happy to work with you under certain conditions." This will help create a more reliable basis for obtaining a visa and establishing a business relationship.

To solve my problem, I began telling others about my plans to go to California. Yulia Peskova, one of the founders of Kawaii Factory, introduced me to a well-known tattoo artist from Los Angeles who was planning to develop her brand in North America. We met over Skype, and our rapport was excellent. As a result, I received not only a collaboration offer from her company but also my first employer and partner, who was waiting for me in California. The key is to escape the "We're done, nothing's going to work" mentality. Many have faced similar challenges and found solutions. It's important to ask yourself daily, "What can I do today to try to solve this problem?" This approach will help you stay motivated and find new ways to overcome obstacles. Regular action and a positive attitude are the key to success in any situation.

About the portfolio

When analyzing case studies, it is important to realize that the audience studying them often does not have in-depth knowledge of your field. They focus primarily on quantitative metrics and reputation. Therefore, it's important to mention significant names and well-known companies to increase trust and interest in your content. Including major brands in your case studies can significantly increase your appeal to potential clients and partners.

In your portfolio, it's important to demonstrate the significance of the clients you've worked with, especially in the context of your country. To better assess your experience, you should draw comparisons with well-known international companies. This will help highlight your professionalism and level of work, as well as convince potential clients of your expertise.

If you've worked with Sberbank, you should include your portfolio in your case study and highlight that it is the largest bank in Russia. Similarly, you can consider Bank of America, which is one of the leading financial institutions in the United States. Both banks are distinguished by the scale of their operations and significant influence on the financial markets of their countries. Mentioning such major players in the banking sector highlights your experience and professionalism, which has a positive impact on your image.

A lawyer plays an important role in every project. When preparing materials for a client, it's essential to provide the attorney with the highest possible level of information about each case in your portfolio. This will allow the attorney to highlight key points and effectively utilize them in their work. Proper presentation of information will significantly increase the chances of successfully resolving legal issues.

In a portfolio, it's not the number of projects that matters, but their quality and significance. It's recommended to include work with major players in your field, emphasizing your significant role in each. Media mentions of these projects will also be a significant plus, as this confirms their significance and your professional expertise.

When describing a project, it's important to include articles, as they can significantly enhance its value. Any publications related to you, your work, or mentioning specific projects will be helpful. Additionally, articles in which you share your experience can also be a valuable addition.

The lawyer recommended that it is best to provide information in a compact form, focusing on quality over quantity. It is important to monitor the style and aesthetics of the presentation of the material. It is recommended to update old projects, improve them, and conduct high-quality content processing.

Even someone without a developed sense of taste can form a positive impression of your work based on its visual perception. It's easy to distinguish between beauty and ugliness, especially when evaluating something from another person. Visual aesthetics play a key role in forming an opinion of the quality of your work, and it's important to pay attention to the design and presentation of your projects. Proper design can significantly increase interest in your work and attract more viewers.

To create an effective portfolio, it's important that it looks neat and logical. Include high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and clear captions. Be sure to include your role in each project and briefly describe its essence and goals. This will allow potential clients and employers to better understand your experience and skills, as well as evaluate your contribution to the projects. A clean and structured portfolio is crucial for attracting attention and creating a positive impression.

On the difficulties after moving

After moving to the United States, I was faced with the need to rebuild my professional network, as many of my clients remained in Russia. I didn't have extensive experience working with international companies, and no one knew me in the new country. This process was not easy: I had to actively seek out and establish new connections, finding people and acquaintances to rebuild my social circle and business contacts.

In Russia, I had no problem finding a job. Four years before my move, I never looked for jobs; they found me. The most difficult moment was the period of uncertainty and a feeling of emptiness. However, over time, I established new connections, and work began to find me again.

If you're planning a move, start by looking for work with international companies, especially those with offices in your future country of residence. Establishing social connections in your new place will significantly simplify your adaptation, as you'll have contacts who will help you settle in. Building professional and personal connections will not only expand your opportunities but also make the transition more comfortable.

After moving, two main challenges arose. The first is the language barrier. Communicating in a new language can be challenging, especially at the beginning. Miscommunication can lead to misunderstandings in everyday life and make it difficult to adapt. It is important to find ways to improve language skills, whether through courses, conversation clubs, or online resources. This will help you integrate into the new environment more quickly and establish contacts with locals.

While you may think you have a good command of English, communicating in it in real life is a completely different challenge.

At the beginning of my interactions with cashiers, I experienced difficulties. For example, when they asked me the question: "Do you need a bag?" I didn't know how to answer correctly. This is not due to the fact that I did not understand the translation of the words "bag" and "do you need." The fact is that the pronunciation of words was completely different, different from what I was used to, learning through various projects, which do not always reflect true British pronunciation.

It is better to study American English in advance, immersing yourself in the language through TV series with everyday dialogues, podcasts, and audiobooks. I used YouTube videos that analyze the differences between American and British words. Now I can easily distinguish between different accents. While dialects can be challenging, I can generally tell when I hear American, British, or Australian English.

If your job doesn't require constant communication in English, you can succeed even with less than perfect English skills. Your primary function is to create something beautiful and functional, whether with your hands or mind. This allows you to focus on your skills and talents, rather than language barriers. Those who are skilled in their craft can demonstrate their abilities and achieve success, regardless of their level of English.

I took my less than perfect English for granted: I am understood here, and I can understand others—in general, this allows me to live comfortably. It's important to set realistic deadlines for yourself. Not three months, but three years—that's how long it will take me to become fluent in English.

There is a common belief that learning a language in an environment where it is spoken is easy and quick. However, this is not entirely true. Learning a language is difficult in any environment. In another country, you truly have more opportunities and motivation to practice, which can accelerate the learning process. Therefore, it is highly recommended to begin learning the language, especially if you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the language.

The second challenge designers face is the English system of measurements. Working as a designer in Russia, you easily operate with familiar measurements: 5 cm, 10 cm, the size of an A4 sheet of paper. However, in the US, completely different sheet and object sizes are used. Over time, of course, you adapt and begin to understand these differences. Early in my career, I had difficulty ordering samples of tableware, cosmetic packaging, stickers, and labels on American projects, as they were all produced using different measurement standards. Understanding these nuances is an important step for successful work in the international design environment.

About development prospects with a talent visa

Development prospects in Russia and America differ significantly. The United States offers extensive opportunities for professional growth and cooperation with the world's largest companies in various industries. Such conditions are difficult to find in other countries unless you enter the international market as a highly qualified specialist. Success depends on your hard work, dedication, and professional skills.

Russian design receives numerous positive reviews, confirming its high quality and excellent execution. This style is not only in demand but also widely represented in the market.

American companies often prefer to collaborate with professionals from Russia, Ukraine, and other CIS countries. This is due to the high quality of the services and products they offer. The level of design in the United States sometimes leaves much to be desired, making specialists from these regions attractive business partners. High-quality work and creative solutions offered by designers from the CIS help American companies stand out in the market and achieve their goals.

In places with financial support and active development of startups, a sustainable industry in the creative sphere is formed. Here, opportunities for growth and realization of the potential of creative specialists open up. In such conditions, creative professionals become especially in demand, and their work is highly valued, especially in the USA. This creates a favorable environment for innovation and self-expression, ensuring a constant demand for qualified personnel.

I view my experience in the United States as an opportunity that gives me greater freedom in choosing where to live, work, and implement projects. Here I improve my English skills and gain international experience that I can apply in the future, regardless of location. This experience opens new horizons and contributes to personal and professional growth.

The talent visa is granted for a period of three years. During this time, you have the opportunity to improve your language skills and increase your professional level in an international environment. In addition, you will have the opportunity to evaluate how you feel in this country and how much it meets your expectations.

The talent visa is a unique opportunity for professionals to test their skills in a new environment without mandatory emigration. This visa allows you to expand your horizons and gain valuable work experience abroad. Successful work in another country can open the door to a visa extension, a green card, or perhaps even a permanent relocation. In any case, such international internship significantly increases your competitiveness in the labor market and expands your career prospects.

Advice for those who want to get a talent visa

Working abroad on a talent visa has its own characteristics that must be taken into account. First of all, it is important to understand that you can only work in the field for which you applied. For example, a designer cannot engage in acting or modeling, as this would be considered illegal. Compliance with these rules is critical to the legality of your stay and work abroad.

Once you realize you're ready to move on a talent visa, it's important to take action. The process can take considerable time and effort. However, those who successfully obtain a talent visa understand that they've completed a challenging yet exciting journey. This experience not only opens new horizons but also validates their professional achievements. Preparing for this step requires attention and persistence, but the results are worth the effort.

Collecting the documents turned out to be one of the most extensive and time-consuming tasks in my experience—it took four months. Writing my thesis seemed a simpler process. It's important to realize that unless you're a specialist working with international companies and are recognized globally, this process can be especially challenging. Upon arrival, you may feel like you're unimportant and uninteresting to others. Imposter syndrome is a common problem faced by many people. It's important to learn to suppress your inner critic and maintain self-confidence. Don't let doubts stop you on your path to success. Keep moving forward, discover new opportunities, and knock on every door. Remember that your value doesn't depend on the opinions of others. Emigration is a complex and multifaceted process. Living in your home country is always easier, as a familiar environment and culture create a sense of comfort. However, moving to another country requires significant effort: you need to open new bank accounts, obtain local cards, and register phone numbers. Every aspect of your life must be adapted to the new conditions. Everything functions differently abroad, including bureaucratic procedures, which requires time and patience to master. Adapting to new realities is a key stage that shapes your life in a new country.

The first year of emigration was the most difficult, but the results are worth all the effort. I found happiness in the new opportunities that moving opened up, especially in New York. Life in this city is unique and unrepeatable. I would be willing to repeat this experience many times over for the sake of living in New York.

I recommend starting with an analysis of the labor market. Visit platforms like LinkedIn and indeed.com to research vacancies in your field, familiarize yourself with salaries and requirements. Don't be alarmed if you think the criteria are too high or your level of English is not perfect. It's important to understand that your dream job abroad may not appear immediately, but this process will give you an idea of your goals and areas for development.

You need to calculate your expenses in your new place. Evaluate your savings and determine the cost of living in the city where you plan to move. It's important to remember if you have any contacts in this city you can contact in the first days if questions or problems arise. Don't hesitate to ask even the most basic questions, for example, how to write down numbers or whether you need to call and add contact information.

Nowadays, it's easy to find people who match your age and interests. Simply post on any social media about your intention to move and your desire to meet people—that's exactly what I did. Now I often receive messages from people who are planning to get a visa or come, and they ask me questions. We are all human, and this is completely normal.

When traveling to Asia or the Middle East, it is important to consider the cultural characteristics of these regions. Understanding local traditions and religious norms will help you interact respectfully with locals. Before your trip, it's recommended to research how culture and religion influence everyday life to avoid misunderstandings and show due respect for local customs. This will not only enhance your travel experience but also help you establish positive relationships with people.

Test your tolerance: how capable are you of respecting people's differences and accepting their right to their individuality, as long as they don't harm you? This will help you adapt more easily to a new social environment. Respect for diversity is a key aspect of interaction and contributes to a harmonious atmosphere.

There are many myths about the United States, but generalizing this country, which has a population of over 300 million, is wrong. Similar to Russia, which is home to a large number of peoples, cultures, languages, and traditions, the United States is also a multifaceted society. Each of these countries has diverse climates and unique communities, making them complex and multilayered. Understanding these differences is important for forming a more accurate and objective view of each country.

I recommend developing a "Plan B" in case your initial plans don't work out. This can be scary, as returning home seems like a sign of failure. However, it's important to consider that this could happen. We had this planned out in advance: if we didn't find a job in the US and exhausted all our funds, we would simply buy return tickets. Having a "Plan B" shouldn't cause anxiety. Don't worry about what others think; focus on solving your problems and planning for the future.

Making new connections plays an important role in everyone's life. I am someone who sometimes leads an active public life, giving lectures and participating in projects, but at the same time, I value moments of solitude and prefer not to leave home unless absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, I realize that having real people around me is a source of strength and support. Interacting with others enriches our experiences, helps us grow, and helps us overcome challenges. Building connections with others promotes personal and professional growth, opens up new opportunities, and helps us overcome challenges. Building a network is an essential aspect of living a successful life, and I strive to find a balance between communication and personal time. Many people believe that successfully adapting to a new country requires completely abandoning communication in their native language and immersing themselves in the new culture, communicating exclusively in the new language. However, this can be significantly stressful, especially in the first few months. Even if you initially experience euphoria and joy from the change, it is important to remember that communicating in your native language can help maintain emotional balance and facilitate the adaptation process. People who speak your language are invaluable support. They help you breathe a sigh of relief, calm down, and realize that you are not alone with your problems. You share similar experiences and understand that you are going through a similar journey. Connecting with such people helps strengthen connections and reduce feelings of isolation, which can significantly improve your emotional well-being.

Gather information, form your own opinions, and don't be afraid to embark on a journey to new heights. Exploring new horizons opens up a wealth of opportunities and perspectives. Don't miss the chance to expand your knowledge and experience.
