This dual approach makes the character interesting and multifaceted, which attracts readers' attention and creates a deep connection with them.

Anton Tokarev, lead technical game designer at Apella Games, shares his impressions of the work of Benoit Sokal. He notes that among Sokal's games, L'Amerzone and the two Syberia games stand out to him. He also became familiar with the comics with which Sokal began his career as an artist. These comics are distinguished by their vibrant graphics and explore themes of anthropomorphic animals facing human problems. Tokarev emphasizes that, while studying the comics, he realizes that these graphic novels and Sokal's games form a single universe. This makes Sokal's work a unique and captivating journey through the world he created. In his comics, Sokal depicts a dark, depraved, and corrupt world where moral standards are lost. Characters who commit absurd acts appear absurd and naive, yet they nevertheless evoke sympathy in readers. This contrast between their stupidity and sincerity provokes reflection on human nature and social values. Sokal masterfully uses comics as a medium for social critique, drawing attention to issues that remain relevant today.

In an interview, Sokal was asked why he chooses animal imagery in his work. The artist replied that he simply enjoys drawing them. However, in his works, such as "Inspector Canardo," the images of dogs, chickens, pigs, and monkeys serve as a reflection of the human vices often depicted in film noir. This work features characters such as prostitutes, murderers, and losers who try to drown their problems in alcohol. Sokal masterfully uses animals to convey the complexities of human nature, which adds depth and layering to his work.

Comic book series «Inspector Canardo» attracted readers thanks to the author Sokal's pessimistic view of the world. Sokal himself emphasizes that his goal is a realistic depiction of reality, not the creation of illusions. An interesting fact: throughout the entire comic, the main character never smiles, which emphasizes the gloomy tone of the narrative. Moreover, a characteristic feature of Sokal's works is that events often turn against the characters, which gives the plot a dramatic tone. This makes "Inspector Canardo" a unique work in the world of comics, where pessimism and tragedy are intertwined with real-life situations.

"Benoit Sokal became known to me thanks to the unique quest Syberia. This game was released just before the decline in the popularity of the genre, and now quests are practically absent from game store catalogs. However, this is not the main thing. At the time of the game's release, Sokal was 48 years old, and it combined adult themes with childish naivety. The gameplay feels like a journey into the attic of your parents' old house, where you can study yellowed photographs and read old letters. Before Syberia, I hadn't heard of the famous French comic artist Benoit Sokal, whose comic strip about the duck detective Canardo was popular for many years. This experience of discovering his work was special and memorable for me."

Sergey Himmelreich noted that in this situation, the author doesn't focus on tools, but on the narrative. This allows players to become deeply immersed in the story without being distracted by unnecessary side activities. This approach contributes to a more engaging and immersive gaming experience, where the focus is on the story and character development.

Benoit Sokal's work has had a significant influence on me. I respect his games, although they are not among my favorites. Sokal, as an artist, storyteller, and game designer, left a significant mark on the gaming industry, particularly in the adventure genre, with the creation of Syberia. His work continues to inspire many developers and players, highlighting the importance of artistic approach and deep narrative structure in video games.
