In our youth, we were all maximalists. The world seemed simple and understandable, and the boundaries between good and evil were clearly defined. Feelings during this period of life are heightened, sincere, and clear. Friendship in youth is more than just time spent together; it's a deep connection of souls, founded on mutual understanding and trust. Such relationships form the foundation for later maturation and an understanding of life's complexities. Lost Records vividly illustrates friendship between teenagers, conveying both its joys and challenges. The main character, a girl named Swann, struggles with social interactions: she's withdrawn, shy, and a little eccentric. However, fate smiles upon her when she meets Nora, Autumn, and Kat. A strong friendship develops immediately, as these girls don't strive for pathos or self-aggrandizement. They are open to the world, dreaming of freedom and justice, which makes their relationships sincere and genuine. Lost Records explores powerful themes of acceptance, friendship, and finding one's place in the world, making it not only engaging but also meaningful for teenagers.

27 years later, Swann reunites with Autumn, and Nora joins them. They've all changed: each has their own life now, and their friendship seems to be on the rocks. Despite their vow to stay together forever, life has sent them down different paths. This meeting makes them reflect on the past and how circumstances have changed their relationship.

There is one more important aspect.

In a small town surrounded by forests, there is an unsolved mystery that the locals have chosen to forget. Some time ago, they encountered something mysterious—a strange Abyss lurking in the depths of the forest. This phenomenon demanded a sacrifice and, strangely enough, responded to it. The locals are still afraid to remember what they saw and try to avoid the forest where this mysterious event once occurred. The mystery of the Abyss continues to be the subject of discussion and rumors, arousing fear and curiosity at the same time.

The game's events unfold in two time periods, with the past dominating. These timelines are closely linked and mutually influence each other: adult women recall moments from their youth, and events of the past are accompanied by commentary from the future. Every detail is intertwined, creating a deep and multi-layered narrative.

In the future, one of the women receives a mysterious package connected to her past. Someone knows what happened that summer, and this knowledge begins to affect her life. However, don't expect Lost Records to focus on mystery or horror. In fact, it's an exploration of the everyday: the first chapter is entirely devoted to the relationships between the girls and their teenage tomfoolery, as well as rebellion. There is some mystique here, but it only emerges at the end, not in the same way as in It.

Memories of 1995 evoke warm feelings. I was only five years old at the time, but I vividly remember the atmosphere of that period. Life in America back then was different from Russia, but I grew up surrounded by American shows and movies. If you have a similar experience, you'll feel right at home at Lost Records. This project brings together people who share a love for American culture and nostalgia for those times.

Swann uses a video camera to enhance nostalgic emotions. Video recording is central to the gameplay, capturing every moment and then editing it into short videos with commentary. Players control the camera themselves, allowing for the creation of unique content. This adds depth and originality to the gaming experience.

Episodes can be swapped out to create a higher-quality short film. Each of Swann's friends can be filmed an unlimited number of times, allowing for the creation of the desired video sequence during editing. This approach allows you to experiment with the plot and visual style, which ultimately improves the final product.

It's almost impossible to remember your youth without feeling awkward. Swann once decided to steal a thong because she felt awkward buying one, but ended up getting the wrong size anyway. Looking back on such moments, you might ask: who among us hasn't done something embarrassing at the age of 16? These moments become part of our experience and shape our identity, even if they are associated with awkwardness.

Cringe gives Lost Records an atmosphere of comfort and ease. The girls freely express themselves without fear of seeming strange, and this creates a sense of camaraderie. They roast marshmallows over a campfire, play "Truth or Dare?", discuss various topics, and simply enjoy the time spent together. In the world of gaming, there is a genre called "therapeutic", and Lost Records fits this definition perfectly. The game evokes a sense of joy and comfort, making it particularly appealing to players.

The sunny, bright visuals and synth-inspired music play a key role in creating the game's atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of 1995, when televisions were round and music played on boomboxes. A Tamagotchi can be seen in Swann's room, adding a touch of nostalgia and evoking warm memories of the past. These details enhance the immersion in the game and create a unique sense of connection with that time.

Girls live They live in a world of dreams and are open to everything new. They are ready to allow a variety of experiences and emotions into their lives. However, during the game, there is always something that causes internal discomfort. This is the feeling of anticipation of something important and possibly tragic that can change their perception. Such experiences often create tension and a growing sense of breakdown, making their path to self-discovery and maturation even more complex and multifaceted.

This event occurs at the end of the first episode, leaving a noticeable void and creating suspense in anticipation of the sequel.

Rage

The sequel was released on April 15th, after almost two months of anticipation. This period may seem long, and during this time, interest in the adventures of Swann, Autumn, Nora, and Kat could have faded. However, the plot does not lose its momentum: the main characters are quickly packing their things, as Swann is leaving soon. The happy summer is coming to an end, leaving only a feeling of longing and nostalgia.

The second tape is only 3-4 hours long, which may give the impression that the most interesting part is about to begin. However, most of the tape is dedicated to the same events as before, but taking into account the traumatic revelation that sounded at the end of the first tape. This experience separates the heroines and forces them to rethink all the events of this magical summer.

The second part of the game is called "Rage" for a reason. The Abyss, discovered by the girls in the forest, begins to reveal itself more and more clearly: it hypnotizes and intoxicates, promising power. The teenagers begin to express this power through rebellion. It could be said that the Abyss gives them the courage to be themselves and show the world their true selves.

Each of the girls experiences trauma individually, but regardless of the player's choices, they continue to support each other. Even Autumn, who initially distances herself from the group, eventually finds a connection with the others. This dynamic of relationships highlights the importance of friendship and mutual support in difficult times.

Although I would like to spend More time with sweet and mischievous friends, summer is coming to an end—this moment is inevitable. I admit I was worried that Don’t Nod might disappoint with the ending, but they didn’t. If the ending of the first tape left a strong impression, the conclusion of the whole story is simply amazing. All plot lines are logically resolved, and the game ends on a high level, which makes it a worthy conclusion.

Lost Records offers a variety of endings, and the choices are designed in such a way that the player may not realize that their actions are different from those of others. Don’t Nod masterfully implemented variability into the plot, which helps maintain the integrity of the story. Regardless of the choice made, the plot remains coherent and harmonious, without losing its key elements.

During her journey, Swann first lost Nora, which happened due to a failed stealth mission, which negatively impacted the gameplay. Later, she lost Autumn as well. These women couldn't cope with the painful memories and abandoned her. Swann opened the box from her past alone, and the moment was full of beauty and emotion. If Nora and Autumn had stayed together, it would have added no less beauty and touchingness to the story.

The soundtrack deserves special attention. It includes both energetic punk tracks and lyrical synth compositions that create an atmosphere of nostalgia. The song "Sparks" by The Dø becomes a central element of this musical accompaniment. If it isn't already on your playlist, after listening to Lost Records, it will definitely find its place.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage explores a variety of themes, including teenage rebellion, self-acceptance, friendship, and nostalgia. This project isn't limited to a single idea, but rather embraces various aspects of young people's lives. Rather than seeking specific meanings or morals in Lost Records, it's worth focusing on the shared feelings and experiences it evokes. This work creates space for reflection and emotion, allowing each viewer to interpret it in their own way, making it particularly relevant and multifaceted.

This game creates a unique mood. It's important not to analyze, but simply allow yourself to feel. Give yourself the opportunity to dream, enjoy the moment, and experience sadness. It's emotions that unlock sincerity and authenticity in us, just like the girls do. This is important not only for them, but for each of us. Let yourself be immersed in the world of feelings and discover new facets of your soul.
