Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines had every chance of success due to many factors. Firstly, it is based on a popular tabletop role-playing game, which attracted the attention of fans. Secondly, development was carried out by a team from the now-defunct Black Isle studio, known for its RPG masterpieces such as Fallout and Planescape: Torment. Furthermore, the game utilized the then-state-of-the-art Source game engine, ensuring high-quality graphics and gameplay. Despite this, Bloodlines was a flop, which can be attributed to several poor development and marketing decisions.
Troika Games clearly underestimated the capabilities of its small team. The game designers attempted to create an RPG with elements of melee combat, shooting, and stealth, seven playable vampire clans, a complex dialogue system, and a branching storyline, all while using a team of only 32 people. This ambitious undertaking led to significant development difficulties, which impacted the quality of the final product.
Source presented numerous technical challenges, as the engine was not yet fully completed. The studio faced difficulties working with unfamiliar code and tools. This creates a captivating atmosphere and allows for immersive gameplay.

He informed me that I would need to fix the error myself, since he had completed his work on the patch. He also explained how to do it, the modder shares his experience. Update 8.4 introduced a new library level and a corresponding side quest. The modder and his team had to recreate the location from scratch based on the limited number of models and textures found in the game files.


Gradually, the number of additions increased, and the patch began to resemble a classic mod. As a result, Werner split it into two versions: the Basic Patch, which only fixes bugs, and the Plus Patch, which makes changes to content and gameplay mechanics. This allowed users to choose the most suitable option depending on their preferences.
The first patch is available with the official copy of the game on the GOG platform, while the second patch, known as the VTBM Unofficial Patch, can be found on the Mod DB portal. This patch continues to receive updates, and version 11.2 was released in July of this year, which includes technical bug fixes and gameplay balance improvements.
Shpal intends to continue working on the patch as long as users continue to send him bug reports. He is also focused on finding content that can be restored. Shpal explains his ongoing interest in the project by his belief that it is important for the community.

Obsidian Entertainment received the opportunity to develop a sequel to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, recognized as the best RPG of 2003. This was made possible thanks to the connections between the studio's founders, Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone, who previously worked at Black Isle, known for their projects Fallout 1-2 and Planescape: Torment. At the time, Obsidian was still little known and had to agree to tough terms that BioWare, the creators of the first game, refused.
