Launch YouTube channel: 7 steps to success promotion
Learn moreHow I learned on the fly in the world of YouTube
My YouTube career started in 2015, when I, an avid photographer, decided to master a new content format. At that time, I already had some fame in Yekaterinburg and, together with fellow photographers, went to Turkey to implement our creative project. This experience became an important step in the development of my channel, where I began sharing not only photos but also videos, showing viewers the beauty and culture of Turkey, as well as my skills in photography and videography.
We took a GoPro camera with us and began filming vlogs about our leisure time. For us, YouTube at that time was just a platform for storing videos. We uploaded our recordings and shared links on my VKontakte public page, where I had about five thousand subscribers. Gradually, I began to study YouTube's algorithms and their nuances. This gave me a better understanding of how to promote our content and grow our audience.
A year later, I came across a post by marketer Sasha Sokolovsky, who was looking for an editor for his project. I responded and agreed to work without pay. As a result, we created a great team, and Sasha soon offered me a move to Moscow. There, he quickly found a client interested in developing his YouTube channel.
Adapting to the new environment proved challenging. My lack of experience created certain difficulties. I was anxious and eager to learn from my colleagues, but the information was insufficient. I had to master new things through practice, which often involved paying clients. This created significant stress, but I couldn't resist exciting new projects.
I tested hypotheses, collected and analyzed feedback, which contributed to my professional growth in video production. These steps allowed me to improve my skills and refine my video production processes, which in turn had a positive impact on the quality of the final product.
Early in our advertising career, we encountered a number of unpleasant situations. One such incident was the loss of a wide shot during editing. We had to quickly adapt and suggest the client create a video using only close-ups. Fortunately, he agreed, and we were able to complete the project. This incident became an important lesson for us: we implemented the practice of creating two backup copies, which allowed us to avoid similar problems in the future and increase our reliability as an advertising agency.

How YouTube Works: Secrets of Producing and Creating Successful Content
On today's YouTube, many users strive for millions of views from their very first video. However, the reality is that achieving success requires both time and a clear strategy. According to Michael Borodin, an experienced producer, the level of YouTube producers in Russia still leaves much to be desired. To achieve significant success on the platform, it is important not only to create high-quality content but also to understand the algorithms, target audience, and effective promotion methods. Developing a sound strategy and constantly improving your skills will help increase your chances of success and attract an audience to your channel.
"You can count good producers on the fingers of one hand," he notes. Producing is not just a profession; it is an art that is not taught in all educational institutions. Success on the platform requires a deep understanding of its features and intricacies. It's important to remember that high-quality production involves not only technical skills but also a creative approach and the ability to adapt to ever-changing market conditions. Professionals possessing these qualities are capable of creating unique content that will attract audience attention and ensure high levels of engagement.
YouTube has its own unique characteristics that shape its audience's behavior. Unlike platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where users spend only a few seconds on content, YouTube attracts viewers interested in longer, richer videos. This unique nature allows content creators to delve deeper into topics and share knowledge, which helps build a loyal audience. YouTube users are typically looking not only for entertainment but also for valuable information, making the platform ideal for educational content and in-depth discussions.
YouTube's algorithms are the primary driver of video promotion on the platform. They take into account many factors, including viewer retention and thumbnail click-through rates. If a video meets the established criteria, it can receive organic promotion, allowing it to reach a significant number of views. Optimizing content, using relevant keywords, and creating attractive cover images are important steps to increase your chances of success. Understanding how YouTube algorithms work will help creators create more engaging and in-demand videos.
Topical topics and newsworthy events play a key role in attracting an audience. For example, Michael's students created a video series about the film "Dune," which earned them 1,500 views per video due to the popularity of the content. Leveraging current trends can increase interest in content and boost viewer engagement. This underscores the importance of staying current in content creation to achieve successful results.
The key to success in online marketing is regular market analysis. It is important to monitor upcoming releases, trending topics, and holidays to create content that will attract the attention of your target audience. This will allow you to stay relevant and offer interesting materials that match user interests. Continuously monitoring trends will help you adapt your content marketing strategy and increase engagement.
As a producer, your job is to familiarize clients with the intricacies of the YouTube platform to avoid misunderstandings. Clients often expect quick results, not realizing that success on YouTube requires long-term work on high-quality content. It's important to explain that creating and promoting effective videos takes time, effort, and strategy. Success on YouTube depends on regular content release, audience engagement, and video optimization for search. Provide clients with an understanding of this process so they can set realistic expectations and assess long-term prospects.
Michael emphasizes that you shouldn't expect to get a million views immediately after publishing your first video. Black hat promotion methods have lost their effectiveness, and for successful content promotion, it's important to stick to a proven strategy. The main focus should be on regular video releases and a thorough understanding of YouTube's algorithms. This will not only increase your audience reach but also improve the chances of successful channel promotion in the long term.
Michael emphasizes that to achieve successful results as a producer, it's important to work with clients for at least six months. This period allows for careful strategy development and in-depth analysis of performance indicators, which in turn facilitates effective promotion and improves bottom-line results.
When asked about popular content formats, the producer notes that there is currently no single dominant trend. Interviews and podcasts remain relevant and in demand, but the expert believes that increased interest in show formats similar to Nastya Ivleeva's projects can be expected in the near future. These entertaining formats have the potential to attract a wider audience and could become a new trend in the media industry.
Michael recommends paying attention to the podcasts created by his friends Roman Tarasenko and Sasha Sokolovsky. He himself was one of the first guests on these podcasts, which emphasizes their interesting and relevant content.

How to effectively interact with a client: the secrets of successful production
Creation Video production involves three key stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. Each stage presents unique challenges for the producer, but the greatest difficulties arise during pre-production. This stage includes concept development, script writing, casting and location selection, and budget and schedule development. Mistakes or omissions at this stage can lead to significant problems later, including delays and budget overruns. Therefore, high-quality preparation and meticulous planning during pre-production are crucial to the successful completion of the project.
Each stage of the production process requires a high degree of responsibility from the specialist. The producer must be constantly attentive and ready to quickly respond to any changes. If problems arise during filming, it is crucial to quickly find solutions. If the shoot is unsuccessful, an experienced producer can improve the final product through high-quality editing. Thus, the importance of a producer in the content creation process cannot be overstated, as they ensure the quality and success of the final product.
I once had a situation where I needed to quickly respond to an unexpected problem. We were working on an important project, and at the last minute, one of the key elements became incompatible with the rest of the system. This could have led to significant delays and additional costs.
I quickly assembled a team to assess the situation and develop an action plan. We analyzed the problematic element, identified alternative solutions, and quickly tested them. Thanks to our coordinated work and focus on the main goal, we were able to replace the problematic element and successfully complete the project on time.
This case highlighted the importance of flexibility and a willingness to change in work, as well as the significance of teamwork under pressure. Such situations require quick reactions and the ability to make decisions on the fly, which is key to the successful completion of projects.
When launching the "Tender Editor" channel, we invited Aiza Dolmatova, who recently released a diss track about her ex-husband, rapper Guf. This event generated a lot of interest, and we were eager to be the first to present a video featuring her.
I contacted the manager and coordinated everything. However, on the day of the shoot, when I went down to greet the guests, they started asking, "How's Yura doing?" Many of them expected to be interviewed by Dud, since Tanya, our interviewer, had previously worked for him as an editor. This caused a bit of tension, and Aiza wasn't ready to go on set.
At that point, I realized the situation had become critical. The studio was rented, the equipment was already installed, the team was ready to work, and Tanya was on the line.
How did you solve this problem?
I offered everyone a coffee to relax, and I talked to Aiza for about half an hour. I convinced her to come into the studio, realizing that the first step to filming was extremely important. Once she feels comfortable, the conversation will flow easily and naturally.
As a result, despite the initial constraint, by the end of the interview she became more relaxed and emotionally shared her experiences.

The personal qualities that contribute to a successful YouTube producer play a key role in achieving high results. Firstly, creativity allows you to generate unique ideas and content that attracts audience attention. Secondly, communication skills help you effectively interact with your team, partners, and viewers, creating a positive atmosphere and promoting the channel's growth.
Patience and persistence are necessary to overcome the difficulties and setbacks that producers face in the process. Analytical skills allow you to evaluate content effectiveness and adapt promotion strategies.
The ability to work in a team and delegate tasks is also important for successful project management and increased productivity. Ultimately, the ability to self-learn and adapt to the changing conditions of the YouTube platform helps a producer remain competitive and relevant. These personal qualities form the foundation for a successful career as a YouTube producer, enabling them to create engaging and in-demand content.
A producer must possess strong communication skills and developed empathy, which allows them to understand people and effectively interact with them. It's also important to demonstrate stress tolerance, as unexpected situations are common in this profession, and the ability to find solutions in such situations is key. Furthermore, decisiveness plays a significant role: a producer, with expert knowledge, must take responsibility and confidently lead a project to a successful conclusion. These qualities are fundamental to success in production.
Standing up for your opinion is an important skill in a professional environment. If a client rejects your proposed options and doesn't provide a clear explanation for their preferences, don't engage in fruitless debate. Instead, clearly articulate your position and support it with arguments. This will not only help establish trust with the client but also demonstrate your expertise in the field. It's important to remember that constructive dialogue fosters more effective collaboration and leads to better work results.
First and foremost, beginners should be wary of unreliable sources of information. It's important to rely on trusted resources and experts to avoid common mistakes. Also, don't ignore the importance of practical experience: theoretical knowledge without practice can lead to misunderstandings and ineffective results. It's essential to focus on skill development, continually learn, and adapt to industry changes. Furthermore, be mindful of your time and resources, as overinvesting in projects without proper analysis can lead to financial losses. Beginners are advised to set realistic goals and gradually build their competencies to avoid overload and burnout.
I want to discuss several common situations.
- Inflated client expectations. Recommendation: Don't promise what you can't deliver. It's better to explain all the details and set realistic goals.
- Incorrect assessment of workload. It often happens that tasks take longer than expected. Recommendation: Adequately assess your capabilities and learn to say "no" when necessary.
- Inability to defend your position. Don't try to please the client at the expense of your expertise. Recommendation: Position yourself as a professional and don't be influenced by non-specialists.
How to Create a Successful YouTube Channel and Build a Portfolio: Tips for Beginners
The goal of my YouTube channel is to provide a platform for interviewing producers and sharing experiences in the field of production. I strive to cover key aspects of the profession, share insights, and help aspiring professionals better understand the industry. My project is aimed at creating a community where professionals can share knowledge, and viewers will receive useful information on how to develop in this field.
As a YouTube producer, I have repeatedly participated in various forums. At some point, I realized the need to systematize my knowledge and create a video that would combine all the information about the profession. This is how my channel dedicated to producing on YouTube was born.
Promotion of the channel is a key aspect of its successful development. There are many strategies that can help you grow your audience and increase the visibility of your content. Start by creating high-quality, unique content that will be interesting to your target audience. Posting frequency is also important; the more often you update your channel, the more likely you are to attract new subscribers.
Use social media to promote your channel. Share your videos on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to draw attention to your content. Collaborating with other bloggers and participating in joint projects can also significantly expand your audience.
Don't forget about video optimization. Use keywords in titles, descriptions, and tags to improve your channel's visibility in search engines. Analyze statistics and feedback from viewers to understand what they are interested in and what topics are worth exploring.
These strategies will help you effectively promote your channel and increase your subscriber base.
Internal advertising on the platform is a powerful tool for attracting attention and engaging with your audience. Not only does it increase views, but it also fosters strong connections with loyal viewers. This approach allows for quick feedback: users leave comments and send personal messages expressing gratitude. Using internal advertising helps create an active community, which in turn increases engagement and builds trust in your content.

A personal YouTube channel can effectively serve as a portfolio and resume. It provides an opportunity to showcase your skills, experience, and achievements in a visual format. Video content allows you to clearly display your professional skills, projects, and creative work. This is especially relevant for specialists in fields such as design, programming, marketing, and education.
Creating content on your channel not only allows you to showcase your expertise but also attract the attention of potential employers and clients. Regularly updating your channel and engaging with your audience will help strengthen your reputation and increase your visibility in search engines.
Thus, a personal YouTube channel can be a powerful tool for presenting yourself as a professional, supporting your career and expanding your employment opportunities.
Many clients find me through videos by searching for "YouTube producer" and selecting the first video that comes up. My channel not only provides information about my approach to work but also demonstrates my knowledge and experience. Clients can appreciate my ideas and communication style, which helps them decide whether to collaborate. Video content becomes an important tool for attracting clients and building trust, which in turn contributes to successful interactions.
Creating your own channel is an excellent recommendation for beginners. For example, one of my students, a producer at an online school, actively shares her experience through videos. Although each of her videos receives only 50-100 views, at least two clients contact her after each release. This is a clear example of how even a modest number of views can generate a stable income. Content creation and audience engagement opens new opportunities for attracting clients and improving financial results.
For those new to freelancing, building a portfolio and finding your first clients are key stages in career development. It is recommended to start by creating high-quality work samples, even if they are completed for personal projects or as part of school assignments. This will help demonstrate your skills and style.
It is also effective to pitch your services to friends or acquaintances, which will allow you to receive your first orders and reviews. Participating in online freelancing platforms such as Upwork or Freelancer can help in finding clients. It is important to fill out a profile emphasizing your strengths and experience.
Don't forget about social media: creating professional pages on LinkedIn or Instagram will help promote your services and find your target audience. Regularly updating your portfolio and actively interacting with potential clients increases the chances of a successful career start.
You don't necessarily have to attract commercial clients right away. In my opinion, the best option is to start with your close circle. We all know people who are striving to realize their talents. This could be a craftsman creating unique pieces or an artist with exceptional abilities. Offer them your assistance and collaborate, even pro bono. This will not only allow you to gain experience but also create strong connections that can lead to future commercial opportunities. Such collaborations will also help you build a portfolio and showcase your skills to potential clients.
Once you have an idea and a protagonist for your project, it's crucial to inspire other professionals and build a team. Confidence and openness in communication are key. Explain to the camera operator, editor, and screenwriter what kind of extraordinary product you plan to create, and give them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the process. This will not only help improve the final result but also create a collaborative atmosphere that will encourage your ideas to become reality.
Working without pay: how long is acceptable?
The question of how long it is acceptable to work without compensation is a subject of much debate and disagreement. It is important to understand that working without pay may be acceptable in certain situations, such as internships, volunteer work, or projects aimed at gaining experience. However, in most cases, working for an extended period without financial compensation can lead to burnout and decreased motivation.
It is recommended to set clear boundaries and conditions for working without pay. For example, if you are participating in an internship, it is worth discussing the timing and scope of the work in advance. It is important to remember that your time and effort are valuable, and working without pay for an extended period may not be practical. If you feel that your work is not appreciated, you may want to consider finding paid work or consulting with career experts.
The answer is simple: you need to build a solid portfolio. Set a goal for yourself: "I'll work for two months for free and complete 10 projects during that time." These projects will serve as your diploma, clearly demonstrating to clients your ability to create high-quality and meaningful content. A portfolio is the key to attracting clients and proving your professionalism in content marketing.

Work-life balance: important aspects
There is an opinion that The producer's profession involves endlessly orchestrating chaos and constant hustle and bustle, with no room for rest or peace. However, this statement requires a deeper analysis. A producer is a key figure in the industry, possessing a unique ability to manage projects and coordinate a team. Behind the surface bustle lie carefully crafted strategies and planning that ensure the successful completion of tasks. It's important to understand that a producer must not only react quickly to changes but also maintain the ability to analyze and make informed decisions. Thus, the producer's profession combines elements of time management, creativity, and stress tolerance, making it one of the most challenging, yet exciting, jobs in the world of art and business. Every profession, including ours, has its challenges. I faced a serious challenge when I completed 52 shoots in 25 days. This intense schedule led to burnout, and it took me a month to recover. It's important to understand that a balance between work and life is essential for maintaining creative energy and productivity.
To prevent burnout, I emphasize harmony between my professional and personal life. It's important to recognize that there are many aspects of life that are just as important as your career: family, friends, sports, hobbies, and travel. Maintaining this balance not only helps you maintain emotional health but also increases your productivity at work. Finding time for relaxation and hobbies is essential to avoid stress and maintain motivation.
Teamwork makes managing your workload much easier. I value my colleagues, whom I can trust to complete tasks with the confidence that they will deliver 100%, just as responsibly as if I were doing it myself. Teamwork not only increases efficiency but also creates an atmosphere of trust and mutual support, which is key to achieving shared goals.
In addition to my main activities, I offer consultations and master classes. I recently became a speaker for the "Launching and Promoting a YouTube Channel" course. What excites me about teaching is the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience, helping people develop their projects on the YouTube platform. I strive to inspire students to create high-quality content and effectively promote it, which, in turn, contributes to their success online.
From the very beginning, I had a desire to share my knowledge and experience. My first presentation at the forum was attended by 400 people, and despite my nerves, I felt a real surge of energy, overcoming my fear. Subsequently, I created a YouTube channel and, in collaboration with Skillbox, recorded an educational course, which has already received positive feedback from students. My experience in teaching and my desire for self-development help me create high-quality content that is beneficial to students.
Our course stands out from the rest by combining the experience of leading YouTube experts. People often mistakenly believe that success comes without effort, but we have developed a clear system of steps that ensures tangible results. While we don't promise instant millions of subscribers, following these steps will allow you to develop your personal brand or company and reach new levels of visibility and influence.
As part of their thesis project, students develop strategies for their own or commercial YouTube channels. They create a teaser for a pilot episode, design the channel, and develop a content plan and promotion strategy. This allows them to gain practical experience in video content management and audience engagement techniques. Participation in the project promotes the development of video marketing skills and allows for a better understanding of the mechanisms of successful promotion on the YouTube platform.
